It's the last day of the summer holidays here; what are you all up to?

I'm being nosey while I take a break from repairing a bag belonging to dd1. It's leather so not the easiest of things to hand sew

I've labelled both girls' uniforms in sharpie this morning after realising that I didn't buy labels. The writing is awful but hopefully the girls will recognise it as mine until I get to town to buy some printed ones!

We're waiting in for delivery of dd2's new bookshelf, going to Lidl, and baking some buns for packed lunches later on.

Dd2 wants to make her new headteacher a card for tomorrow too (she was dd's class teacher last year).

Other than that we're not up to much really. What about you lot? Anyone else back to school tomorrow? :)

Mine went back today. Youngest first day at reception. She finishes at 12 and then one of her little friends is having a birthday party so going straight to that. before back to school to pick up biggest.
Enjoy the last day.

Ds 5 goes back tomorrow too starting year 1.I have all his uniform sorted out ready 😊 Not doing much today might go park this pm.I think the summer holidays should be 5 weeks then October half term 2 weeks it's such a long time for them to be away from friends and routine imo.

I'm enjoying the last terror-free day of HGV driving in built up areas. Some years ago, I was delivering to a builder's merchant near a school, and as I turned the last corner the road was filled with tiny girls on pink bicycles, toddlers jerking against their reins, and hooting boys playing chicken.

Still brings me out in an icy sweat.

Tomorrow is the last day here. Today, I have brought my boys to the local estuary town so they can play in the sandpit & cool playground. We are having cheesy chips for lunch then ice creams Grin Totally ignoring the homework & uniform labelling that needs finishing, we have tomorrow for that. Then swimming lessons later.

Mine went back last Thursday. Enjoying a sunny warm day with the toddler.
Have a lovely last day.

DD1 starts school tomorrow so we're having a quietish day today - play centre this morning and now DD2 is napping so DD1 and I are watching rubbish YouTube videos, her choice! Need to pop out to buy spare socks and a few more polo tops later and then it'll be dinner, play in the garden with DH and an early-ish bedtime for them.

Taking my DGD to soft play. I'm going to really miss our days together when she's back at school.

Rockbird · 03/09/2019 13:37

Youngest back today. Oldest starts high school on Thursday, I start a new full time job tomorrow so I'm out for lunch with a friend as it's the last time I can. Although she hasn't turned up yet HmmGrin

DD goes back to school in a week after three long but eventful months. Grin
Today she auditioned her full uniform outfit for the first day of school (they change to uniforms this year) and sorted out her pencil case and technical drawing equipment.
She “should” be sorting her bookcase into new and revision textbooks and weeding out her copybooks in the next few days. We have TOO MUCH school equipment and I’m trying to buy as little as possible this year. Just a couple of highlighters and a cute tin of graded pencils from Aldi.

We’ve jokingly done a “what I did in the holidays” speech in ^our^ version of her foreign languages and spoken about her reading books. She’s written her own reports and it will be for the teacher to judge those. Her summer set homework is also her and the teachers’ business.
She’s done a good job of practising her first instrument but her second has been neglected, I’m afraid.
We’re going to a concert tonight and meeting quite a few classmates and mums there. Looking forward to seeing how much they’ve grown in the last 3 months.
12-13yos shoot up in the summer, don’t they? I’m still (just) taller than her and don’t let her forget it!

Nothing much, I've got a gp appt later.

DS is moving from the pre-school (2.5-3.5) to the kindergarten room at nursery (3.5-4.5) but I think it'll be gradual as the leavers might do half days etc at their new primaries. He's done lots of settling in sessions throughout the summer and doesn't seem fussed. It's a bit less active and more classroomy so I'm debating sending him to mini athletics or something on one of his non nursery days to tire him out more.

DD is at her first day at secondary today, very nervous and a bit tearful first thing this morning but 2 of her friends from primary knocked so they could all walk in together and she went off quite happily, so now I'm the nervous one waiting for her to get back and hoping she's had a good day!

Last day off for DS2, we've been to the park and kicked a ball around for an hour this morning, having a quiet afternoon in, he's playing on the Switch at the moment.

DS1 doesn't go back to college until Monday, he's out with his mates at the cinema then they'll probably have a wander around Westfield.

MulticolourMophead · 03/09/2019 14:25

Ours went back last week, and I'm at work today. Business as usual.

MinnieMountain · 03/09/2019 14:30

DS was at MIL's this morning whilst I worked my half day. She's dog sitting, so he had a great time.

I've taken him for a haircut. Once he's played for a bit we're getting the train to collect his new (second hand) bike.

He's having whatever he wants for supper.

Adversecamber22 · 03/09/2019 14:39

I’m in America, we have been to a family wedding so DS is missing the first two days of school. He has permission and fortunately nothing much is on his timetable, he is in sixth form. So it’s pancakes with a few relatives this morning, botanic gardens to go and look at my relatives lab and then flying home. The grooms family were really fab and had a party in their hotel suite after the rehearsal dinner, I now have invites to stay in Montana, North Carolina and Texas. The wedding was a three day affair. We spent about nine days in Chicago first staying on the Magnificent mile.

FrenchFancie · 03/09/2019 16:33

Haircuts, library books, playground and a pop into her ballet school to buy this terms uniform before the chaos of the first lesson.

happypotamus · 03/09/2019 17:59

We went to the local children's interactive science museum place. That's what DDs chose to do on the last day of the holidays. I have yet to do anything organised. DD does not know where her P.E kit is. It is not where I thought it had been for the past 6 weeks.
I have 3 extra days with DD2 as she is starting Reception and they don't start until next week (half days for the first week). I asked her what she wants to do with her last days. She said she wants to go to the park and watch Paw Patrol. She's easily pleased!
