DC1 starts Reception tomorrow, eek! So nervous for him and so hoping it goes better than I am expecting! Anyone else in the same boat?

My DS starts tomorrow and is soooooo excited. He's been waiting for this day for months! 😍

Birdie379 · 02/09/2019 19:37

Mine’s going into year 6 now but just wanted to lend some support as I remember the nerves well. DS took a long time to settle into school life but he got there eventually. If your LO does have a wobbly start try not to worry, they’ll be well looked after. A little trick I used to do which DS loved was that it kiss my hand and then put the kiss into his pocket, he’d ‘take it out’ when he needed it. All the best!

pinkstar01 · 02/09/2019 19:39

Mine starts from Wednesday, I'm sooooo nervous because he's anxious about it and didn't enjoy his settling in day at all :(

Me! Not too worried about the first few days as she went to the school preschool and is only mornings til Friday. I am however worried about full days and lunch, as she barely eats Sad

BendydickCuminsnatch · 02/09/2019 19:41

Not til Monday here! Uniform shop still haven’t got my order in 😤😤😤😤

SimonJT · 02/09/2019 19:44

Mine son starts tomorrow, there have been lots of tears since Saturday as he doesn’t want to leave nursery to go to school. So I’m looking forward to 8:30 tomorrow!

flowerstar19 · 02/09/2019 19:44

Oh lovely to have some company in this! Thanks so much for the voice of experience @Birdie379 - great idea on the kiss in a pocket, I will try that!

Fingers crossed for you @pinkstar01 - it's very hard. Mine was fairly positive until this evening when he decided he's not going to go after all...

My Dad starts tomorrow she's a bit nervous.

Reindeerssmellbetter · 02/09/2019 19:45

Not my Dad that would be wierd, my Dd.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 02/09/2019 19:46

I remember that day so well. I cried in the way home. My son starts his last year in high school weds. Year 11. How did I get to crying on his first day to seeing him go to his last year at school Shock

toriaplum · 02/09/2019 19:50

My LO starts on Wednesday. He been half days in the school nursery class for the last 18 months and has settled well. However, I'm nervous because his two best friends are in the other Reception class. He has also decided he wants school dinners but is a bit of a fussy eater.
I'm sure he'll be fine. Whether I will is an entirely different matter. Smile Blush

imamearcat · 02/09/2019 19:52

Yep my DD starts tomorrow. 😬😬

Birdie379 · 02/09/2019 19:52

They really will all be fine. If they have a packed lunch make it as simple as possible-packets already opened for them.

They’ll be super tired when they get home so an early tea, nice bath and then cuddles on the sofa.

If they struggle with friendships then try and do a whole class party for their 5th birthday. DS was busy making friends with leaves in the first term, it broke my heart. A big exciting party for the whole class really broke the ice for him.

Keep the good byes brief, even if they’re crying and clinging on. Big squeeze and a breezy ‘see you later, Mrs X will look after you’. Hand over and sob in the car.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 02/09/2019 20:14

Me! (Well, DD2)
I'm an odd mixture of relieved and horrified. She's a bit nonplussed tbh, she's been to a few induction days so doesn't see tomorrow as any different.
I LOVE the idea of putting a kiss on her pocket and might do it for DD1 too as she's nervous about starting with a new teacher.
I used to draw matching hearts on our bodies somewhere so we could think of each other. I think o read that on here.
Good luck everyone ❤️

wendz86 · 02/09/2019 20:22

My DD2 starts reception tomorrow. She is very excited and went to the nursery attached so not really worried about her.

aweedropofsancerre · 02/09/2019 20:30

My DS started in reception today. However he was in the pre school before which as far as I was concerned was starting school! He was anxious (not helped by the fact I hadn't put him in uniform as I had read the info wrong.....) He was a DC who clung to my leg right up until the last day of nursery. When he started pre school he was anxious but my word he loved it and apart from a must have wave every morning he used to cry if i picked him up on time as he wanted to go to after school club.. They just seem to be ready!

Benes · 02/09/2019 20:37

Anyone else's school doing half days? DS's does two weeks of half days!! He's been in full time childcare since he was 10 months so these first few weeks are going to feel like a holiday to him 😂

flowerstar19 · 02/09/2019 22:41

Yes @Benes! Two weeks here too, I think it is really going to confuse my DC!

OP posts:
Benes · 03/09/2019 07:41

It's a blummin' nightmare!!
Good luck to everyone today

bookworm14 · 03/09/2019 07:48

My DD starts on Wednesday (afternoons only for the first three days). I’m very nervous for her as she’s mid-August born and will be one of the very youngest. She has no interest in reading or writing yet (can recognise her own name though). I know the teacher will be used to dealing with summer-borne, but she just seems so young to me! Sad

imamearcat · 03/09/2019 10:28

How did everyone's drop offs go?

SparklyMagpie · 03/09/2019 10:51

Aww hope everyones little ones who's first day it is went in well :)

DS goes in tomorrow afternoon, hes already been in the nursery at the school and has had a couple of visits to his new classroom, so shouldn't be too much of an issue

He is VERY excited but mainly for his new PE kit and can't wait to show off his "running" skills Grin

For me though I feel very emotional for some reason Haha.

He has 2 days of half day settling in before full time starts monday, I think I'm more anxious about how he'll cope with the full days and to changing to school dinners.

Good luck to everyone

flowerstar19 · 03/09/2019 11:00

Hi @imamearcat not bad, had a few wobbles before we left the house but once we left he was amazing. Hope he will have enjoyed his day and that the novelty won't be over for tomorrow, and the next day and the next! How did it go with you?

@SparklyMagpie great that your DC seems okay with it and hopefully the lunches might be fun? Not sure my DC will like them but packed lunches are a good back up I guess! Good luck!

OP posts:
SparklyMagpie · 03/09/2019 11:10

That's brilliant, hopefully he will be loving every second and I'm sure he'll be very excited to tell you all about it at home time Grin fingers crossed from now on Haha

And yeah, I think he'll be alright, I've been telling him all about them and what happens and I'm sure once he sees all his friends getting and eating theres, it'll be all systems go haha, but atleast I know I have packed lunches as back up

wendz86 · 03/09/2019 11:15

We had a bit of a queue to get in this morning (emotional goodbyes) but she went in no problem with a couple of her friends.
She is finishing at 12 this week then they have lunch next week and finish at 1.30 Childminder will be doing those drop offs and pick ups though.
