@FredaFrogspawn, they were flavoured sugar type sherbet. There was a blue one that tasted like washing powder.

Mr Fruits. They were made by Swizzels Matlow in Stockport. I used to collect them. I liked the orange one the most, then the plum and blackcurrant ones. Not long after, SM started making grenade and spaceship-shaped plastic thingies with the same fizzy tooth rot inside!
