DH and I saw this earlier in a hospital cafe and had a long pointless discussion over it, so naturally I need to know what MNers think

Cafe has three tiers of sarnie: cheap ones (cheese/houmous/coleslaw), middling (ham, chicken tikka) and expensive (prawn, can't remember what else)

Procedure is you order your sandwich, it's wrapped in a bag and then you take it along the queue to the till where you order drinks etc. Till person asks you what sandwich you've got and you pay.

Woman in front of us ordered a prawn sarnie with extra salad and coleslaw. Takes it to the till, is asked "what have you got?" and replies "Cheese". Pays the cheaper rate.

Is she a cheeky sod? Or is it fair enough? I have too much time on my hands

This woman is a thief but she’s not stealing from the hospital.

Plase you forgot the 35 percent or so who just re-imagine the Theft Act in order to make it legal. 'It's not theft because nobody owns sandwiches.' 'It's not theft because prawns are evolved from cheese.'

Why hysterical? Theft is theft. If you’re relaxed about one type of theft why not be relaxed about all types of theft? Or is it only considered worth summoning the energy to care if it directly affects you?

The only time I've ever had food poisoning as an adult was due to a hospital cafe prawn sandwich, which I did pay for btw.

I love how het up mumsnetters get over this type of thing. It's cheeky fuckery but nothing worth getting upset about.
