Is this woman winning at life, or a dirty rotten thief? Pointless straw poll!

DH and I saw this earlier in a hospital cafe and had a long pointless discussion over it, so naturally I need to know what MNers think Grin

Cafe has three tiers of sarnie: cheap ones (cheese/houmous/coleslaw), middling (ham, chicken tikka) and expensive (prawn, can't remember what else)

Procedure is you order your sandwich, it's wrapped in a bag and then you take it along the queue to the till where you order drinks etc. Till person asks you what sandwich you've got and you pay.

Woman in front of us ordered a prawn sarnie with extra salad and coleslaw. Takes it to the till, is asked "what have you got?" and replies "Cheese". Pays the cheaper rate.

Is she a cheeky sod? Or is it fair enough? I have too much time on my hands

It's really clear how the pricing is organised, it's on a big poster thing by the sandwich counter. I was so surprised when she said "cheese" I just got the giggles. It seemed like something a naughty child would do, not a grown woman. Didn't occur to me to grass her up!

I think "pond scum" might be a bit harsh Shock

I wouldn't care, and won't pretend to.

I mean I wouldn't do this myself, but wouldn't consider the person scum etc

managedmis · 02/09/2019 18:33

Middling? Love it😊

Jupiters · 02/09/2019 18:34

Theft I'm afraid... Would not be sustainable if everyone did it. I'm surprised they don't mark the packaging to show which pricing tier it was on.

Bellagio40 · 02/09/2019 18:38

Thief

BloggersBlog · 02/09/2019 18:38

Thieving from a hospital cafe is pretty low! To think that quickly to say "cheese" it seems as if she has done it before (got my judgey pants hitched up so high it feels like I am wearing a thong)

fairgame84 · 02/09/2019 18:38

I work in a hospital and it's usually staff that pull stunts like this.

katseyes7 · 02/09/2019 18:45

l'd be inclined to ask to speak to the café manager and mention it. You don't need to give any other info (the woman was a stranger to you, presumably), but perhaps suggest that they either write on the bags or use stickers to identify the contents.
The cheeky mare. l don't know how some people sleep at night.

FenellaMaxwell · 02/09/2019 18:47

Who in their right mind would chance eating prawns at a hospital cafe?! >> not envy Envy

AlexaAmbidextra · 02/09/2019 18:49

She’s cheeky, but in the grand scheme of things it really doesn’t matter

In the grand scheme of things it certainly does matter as she’s depriving the hospital of income. Do you go around stealing on the basis that none of it matters?

BumbleBeee69 · 02/09/2019 18:50

Skank Grin

RogueV · 02/09/2019 18:50

Thief

HeadintheiClouds · 02/09/2019 18:51

How did it even occur to you that this could be “fair enough”, or constitute “winning at life”? Was it you, op? Hmm
Why would you stand there giggling? Confused. You sound as odd as hell.

HaileySherman · 02/09/2019 18:52

Well I wouldn't do it, and I would like to think I've raised my children better than that. But I also would likely just shake my head and move on. I don't know if that makes me bad as well, but it doesn't rise to the level of something I'd call someone out for.

frasersmummy · 02/09/2019 18:53

it's not theft as she is paying for a sandwich. It's cheeky and morally wrong
But she is not a thief or scum

Jade218 · 02/09/2019 18:53

She's a dirty rotten thief

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/09/2019 18:55

Oohh good way to recoup parking charges

HeadintheiClouds · 02/09/2019 18:55

Don’t be daft, fraser. “It’s not theft as she is paying for a sandwich”. How did you work that one out?

pigeononthegate · 02/09/2019 18:56

No, of course it wasn't me Confused

I got the giggles because it was such a weird, incongruous, petty thing for a respectable-looking grown woman to do. Probably fuelled somewhat by my own nerves because I was there having tests done and I'm nervous about the results.

I think you sound "odd as hell", tbh. And not at all pleasant.

Karma will get her when she gets seafood poisoning later this evening

Plasebeafleabite · 02/09/2019 18:57

It would make me chuckle too OP

HeadintheiClouds · 02/09/2019 18:58

I hope your test results are good Flowers

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/09/2019 18:59

Lying low life pond scum.
Woah steady on. It’s only a sandwich. It’s hardly akin to strangling a puppy

NoBaggyPants · 02/09/2019 18:59

it's not theft as she is paying for a sandwich.

So when I go shopping for a silk blouse, can I just pay for the polyester one instead?

Eleanorpenelope · 02/09/2019 19:00

I wouldn’t do it but I’d almost admire her for it
