Has anyone "transformed" their legs?

I am almost 50 and have never loved my legs (and yes, I know how vain this sounds but it's not just about looks!) I am tall but have very big thighs that rub together and are annoying in the heat plus varicose veins, thread veins - lovely! My ankles also swell up uncomfortably in the evenings which means I end up hobbling around. I would really love to lose weight on my legs but it is the last place I seem to lose weight from. Can anyone tell me what has worked for them exercise/treatment wise? I don't expect perfection but I would like to improve the situation before it is too late. Thanks.

Walking - my calves are still chunky but overall my legs are more shapely and the chub rub has decreased

for swelling of ankles decreasing salt intake may help.
other than that swimming may help you. or a good massage with lifting creams.

Sadly the only exercise I've ever found that works on legs is running (but I can't do that any more due to bursitis).

LemonPrism · 02/09/2019 09:41

I imagine horse riding would work - that focuses on legs and core

I was afraid that would be the solution! Grin I do walk quite a bit as I don't really drive but I haven't seen any difference. Sadly horseriding is too expensive

I do swim but probably not often enough.

I am 53 and I love wearing bikini’s. I cannot afford to have any sag or wobble and my legs look as good as they did several decades ago.

My leg saviour I believe is down to my leg master. It’s brilliant.

Be warned though, the first time you use it it will work muscles you didn’t know existed! Persevere and you will be able to do it.

I use it every day, I could do it for longer but ten minutes is enough.

I also hike/walk a lot.

I got a knee injury during running/gym program where id decreased my weight afterDC2 from 107kg to 67(im 5'10)..about midway through my weightloss journey i got an injury preventing the stressing of the knee that the (running,HIIT&leg press had done)phsio recommended a kick board&fins so i didnt lose the fitness/tone of thighs&to strengthen the supportive knee ligaments/structure. I swear my legs got a just as toned with much less impact..i also had varicose veins above knee on both legs&spider veins side of thighs..fortunately although looking pretty ghastly i stopped getting the'problem area'out on show years ago(&wear tight knee shorts swimming!) ..but with regard to the ankles wear decent flight socks when you know you're in for a hellish day&put them on straight out of bed..i joke my legs look&feel like someone else-i had chunky strong trunks for so long!Even though theyre stronger now they are shapely&toned with a defined ankle which i love!Good luckOP

Soola, does it help calves/lower leg or is it more a thigh thing?

IhaveALooBrush · 02/09/2019 10:41

Cycling and running for me. I cycle everywhere and did couch to 5k.
I have no cellulite now.
The rest of me is a mess Grin
I'm starting ballet too, that's really good for strengthening ankles.

Zaphodsotherhead · 02/09/2019 12:26

Running worked for me - but I've still got a prominent varicose vein that nothing is going to get rid of.Although getting the sun on your legs makes the veins less noticeable and also covers the worst of cellulite, so maybe a fake tan would help to start with?

Ihatesundays · 02/09/2019 12:38

I am also trying to do the same. I’m in my mid 40s and I have always had big thighs even as a teenager. I am slightly concerned they just won’t ever get really small.

I have shrunk mine quite a bit already though and my calves are very toned.
I’ve not been running as i have had some issues with my knees so I have been doing HITT, exercise bike and walking. I find I need a good hour before I can feel my thighs really working.

I go on holiday in May and it’s the only time I ever wear shorts, but I would like to feel less disgusting in them.

Thanks for all the tips - really helpful. Has anyone given up caffeine? I've read that it helps but am loathe to do it unless it really does!

Watching with interest! I have always been very active all my life - lots of ballet, horse-riding, weights, running, cycling etc at various times and no amount or type of exercise has ever made my legs thinner 😞 I can build muscle easily but the fat just doesn’t budge.

I suspect dieting is the only thing that would do it but I’m a healthy weight and quite slim everywhere else so don’t really want to lose weight from anywhere else.

Leapyearlover · 02/09/2019 15:13

Frustrating isn't it? My dr said that normally he would recommend someone with vein problems like mine to lose weight straight away- but I am not technically overweight. It just goes to show that a lot of it is due to circulation problems. I see a lot of people who weigh more than me who have beautiful legs!

@Leakinglikeacolander

It does tone the leg all over but doesn’t build bulk. My calves have always been slim. As I got older I was worried my thighs might start to go slack so I spent a long while looking at different equipment and exercises and found the Leg Master to be the best for me.

It keeps everything toned and tightened up.

It’s a shame my feet let me down as I love my legs! 😂

If you get one so t give up as the first week you will not believe you can do it more than a few times but it then becomes easier each day.

I always feel better with a bit of fake tan on my legs! Skinny tan is my favourite, but unfortunately doesn’t make my legs skinny Blush
