Do spiders make noise?

I don't mean with their feet, I mean like a sound to communicate with each other.

I never thought about this before because I imagined them as friendless, hating everyone, but they must talk to their children at some point.

I don't know why I'm asking as it's terrifying.

They communicate by stomping their boots on the floor, and by creaking their knees.
At least, I reckon that's what the big fucker that strolled across my lounge earlier this evening does.

PancakeAndKeith · 01/09/2019 23:18

They can speak. They just don’t have much to say.

The one my husband just killed
‘Died without a whisper’ to quote Leonard Cohen
Was huge

I imagine it to be like a noise that a vampire would make, like a hissing fangy noise.

There is no way I'm clicking on that video. I wont get a wink of sleep tonight.

Grin I think they communicate with some sort of vibration!

OctopusNow · 02/09/2019 10:58

I swear I heard one fart once, many years ago.

SparklyMagpie · 02/09/2019 11:02

@Wallywobbles ahaha that thudding noise 😂 I'm scared to death of them but that video was brilliant

I once found a spider under a bookcase because I was lying in bed and could hear clicking, which I followed with the torch on my phone. It wasn't overly large either so I doubt it was its feet tapping on the floor.

ShutItMorrissey · 02/09/2019 11:15

I don't know - or want to think about, frankly - that, but as an aside has anyone noticed that there are millions of the little bastards this year? We've just come back from a weekend in a big UK city, stayed at a modern fancyish hotel, and over three nights there were four massive ones in our room. Never ever seen one in a hotel like that before. And the city was crawling with them - we even saw one in a museum. Must be because of the warm wet weather.

squashyhat · 02/09/2019 11:18

The mother of a boyfriend I went out with years ago was convinced they had 'ticking spiders' in their house walls. I hadn't the heart to tell her they were probably Deathwatch beetles...

SparklyMagpie · 02/09/2019 11:55

@Juells that's another great video!! Found myself thinking "YAAAAAS! WORK IT!!" GrinGrin

Imonlymoominafterall · 02/09/2019 11:59

I had a massive one under my bed recently and it was making a clicking noise. I think it was knitting.

Juells · 02/09/2019 12:02

I suffered such guilt when I was (much!) younger! There was a plague of huge spiders, and I vacuumed them up, then threw the vacuum cleaner out into the garden, thinking they'd crawl out. DUH. When I emptied the bag there were little suffocated corpses in it :(

Nowadays I gather them up in a towel, and throw the towel out the window. They crawl away, undeaded.

3luckystars · 06/09/2019 17:07

Clicking!!!

That is something I had not considered at all.

Right. I'm going to watch the video now.

This thread has made me chuckle. Spiders terrify me, I get my DH to spray a peppermint based spray from Amazon all over the house, its harmless (we have dogs so it has to be), we also have anti spider plugs that emit a noise spiders don’t like. We live rurally in an old cottage and it’s September, we should be overrun with the buggers but so far, nothing. If you are arachnophobic like me you might want to try my two pronged approach ! Now I’ve said this I bet I come across a monster over the weekend Grin

FudgeBrownie2019 · 06/09/2019 17:36

Haven't you read Charlotte's Web? Of course they talk! And they use fancy words that some pigs just can't understand.

BeepBeeeep · 06/09/2019 17:38

I've only ever heard them go splat as my husband's size 9 Doc Mart hits them.
They freak me out like a freaking thing on a freaking day.

BillywilliamV · 06/09/2019 17:43

STOP KILLING SPIDERS!

They are harmless ffs, Killing things isn’t funny!

Windydaysuponus · 06/09/2019 17:47

I believe they giggle as they rub their willie's on left out at night washing....

RolyWatts · 06/09/2019 17:58

I've heard spiders very loudly munching on bluebottles.

JaimeBronde · 07/09/2019 03:33

All you spider killers are going to end up with maggots in your bins and serve you right.

joystir59 · 07/09/2019 04:00

I love to think of them rasping their willies on my left out washing
