Have you ever asked a stranger for san pro?

Not a taat but another thread got me wondering. Has anyone ever asked a stranger in the bathroom for a tampon/pad? I’ve never ever done that nor witnessed it. Surely it’s an urban legend and doesn’t actually happen?

A girl on a train in India asked me. I was happy to help.

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 01/09/2019 15:30

I have. I asked four and then behind the bar and then the venue manager. Then I had to sprint to Asda, praying that the improvised half-roll of bogroll stopped anything escaping (fortunately it did).

DuesToTheDirt · 01/09/2019 15:31

No, but I did steal some from someone's bathroom once... I was visiting a friend of a friend, a stranger to me, and my period arrived unexpectedly, about 2 weeks after the previous one. Hmm

I'd have asked her if it was OK, but there was a mixed group of about 6 people chatting and laughing in the living room and I was embarrassed to ask in front of everyone.

No, in my almost 30 years of menstruating I have never asked a stranger for san pro, or been asked by a stranger if I have any.

BuildBuildings · 01/09/2019 15:37

Possibly. I've been asked before. Always happy to help. Periods are grim enough without being without pads / tampons. (soz the phrase sanitary protection makes me cringe)

Fraggling · 01/09/2019 15:41

Only in nightclubs and work.

BogglesGoggles · 01/09/2019 15:42

@BuildBuildings I thought it meant sanitary products - you learn something new every day!

I haven't asked anyone but I have been asked. I am one of those people who carry everything but the kitchen sink in my bag, so maybe that is why everyone asks me? 😂

Tigerwhocamefortea · 01/09/2019 15:44

As a teacher I’ve been asked numerous times by students. I always keep some in a box in my classroom for just in case.

Snowflake9 · 01/09/2019 15:47

I have been asked a couple of times and always carry spares so am happy to help out. I wouldn't mind asking someone either, if I was in a public bathroom.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it at all.

OneOfOurOwn · 01/09/2019 15:48

Never asked nor been asked. In 40 years.

KatherineJaneway · 01/09/2019 15:49

No but I visited Google's London office once and they had free tampons / pads in the ladies toilet.

raffle · 01/09/2019 15:49

Yes, I asked the receptionist in the sea life centre, she didn’t have anything so asked the staff in the cafe, them came and found me! I’ve been asked lots of times in the pub, nightclubs etc.

StinkinDrink · 01/09/2019 15:50

Why is there 2 threads going about this??

helpmeiamatoad · 01/09/2019 15:50

I have been asked but never had to ask

Wishforsnow · 01/09/2019 15:50

No, never asked or been asked

polkadotpixie · 01/09/2019 15:51

I've never asked but I've been asked (& given) a few times

Biancadelrioisback · 01/09/2019 15:51

Yeah a few times! My periods are so irregular that it's hard to plan. I always mean to put some tampons in my bag but forget.
They're very light so often toilet roll will do if needed, but I prefer a tampon.

Leakinglikeacolander · 01/09/2019 15:51

Why is this suddenly coming up?
Never been asked, never asked in 35+ years.

picklemepopcorn · 01/09/2019 15:52

No, never. I've asked a good friend or colleague once or twice.

HellonHeels · 01/09/2019 15:54

No (im usually obsessively overprepared) but been asked a few times by women in public loos etc.

Always have supplies in my desk drawer and tell colleagues to help themselves if they need something.

I’ve never asked a stranger or been asked by a stranger. Dds friends asked when we were out once and one of my friends asked while we were out once, but not a stranger. If someone asked and I had something, I’d happily give them a pad, but tbh, it’s rare that I carry a bag now, so probably wouldn’t be able to help. (I’ve just realised that this is probably the one thing that I would struggle with now I don’t carry a bag. If I came on unexpectedly, I’d be a bit stuck).

PurpleDaisies · 01/09/2019 16:03

I wonder whether a magazine/newspaper is planning an article about this.
