Has anyone ever bought one of those really big bottles of fizz?

I’m thinking of getting a big champagne or Prosecco for my parents golden wedding party but I don’t know how big you have to go for it to be impressive - it’s hard to tell scale online. Is jeroboam (4 bottles worth) enough? I want it more for the grandeur than to actually have to make sure it serves everyone as there will be plenty of other booze.

Also how do you know if it’s going to taste ok and where to shop that isn’t too pricey?

I have never bought one but would imagine they are very heavy and difficult to open without losing half the contents. Much better to go for half a dozen bottles of decent stuff. Or maybe one of those fountains (if they are real outside James Bond films)

A magnum (2 bottles) is manageable to pour. Any bigger and you’re going to be in trouble, to be honest. How many are you catering for? I’d expect there to be a price premium for anything other than a magnum and you might as well spend that portion of the cost on buying extra ordinary bottles to make sure the fizz is flowing freely.

I get what you’re going for! Yes jeroboam is def big enough. Magnum is easier to pour but less impressive! I like the Sainsbury’s blanc de noir champagne if they do ones that big?
