TMI warning! Laxatives!

I have an autoimmune disease which causes lots of pain

As a result I'm on dihydrocodeine and have been for over 5 years now. Not idea but it's the only thing that works and helps me lead a half normal life. I do have to take it all day every day

However when I have a terrible flare I have to have tramadol. But it makes me constipated. Bad.

So I took Morrison's own brand laxatives last night. And I'm shitting through the eye of a needle. To be expected. However I've got sweats. Terrible awful belly cramps that actually feel like contractions. I've got goosebumps as if I'm freezing but I'm not. I feel terrrrrribblee.

Doesn't help I had a shit night sleep as DD wanted to get in my bed. She's 1 and a half and I've got to pull myself together to mum for the day! Also I've got my niece for the next two nights to help my sister out with work

How long will it last? I feel like I want to be sick. My mouth keeps filling up with water and I feel so weak. 😫😫😫

Sounds more like a tummy bug than the medication.

Yeah it does sound more like a tummy bug to be honest

Oh dear god no. I can't afford to be sick. If it is a tummy bug is there anything I can do to recover quicker? Laxatives definelty didn't help 😔

What laxative was it?

MIdgebabe · 01/09/2019 09:15

Avoid food , plenty of liquids.
After 24 hrs try gentle food, like white bread , mash, chicken or white fish
Ideally rest. Get the videos out.

onceyoupopyoucantstop · 01/09/2019 09:50

@pottedshrimps it was Morrison's own brand. Little tiny yellow tablets. I took two which it says you can.

@MIdgebabe thank you. Will stick to that I don't have an appetite anyway. Might be good if I lose a few pounds lol

I was bunged up so bought Dulcoease for the first time , took 2
Was up every hour on the hour all night til I was literally shitting water
Stomach cramps, the lot
Now if I need a laxative I find just one is enough for me

Squiff70 · 01/09/2019 10:02

Little tiny yellow tablets sound like Bisacodyl (brand name Dulcolax). They are stronger than herbal remedies such as Senna and you may be very sensitive to this mediction. You may also have a stomach bug but personally I'd pin it down to the laxatives.

I know it sounds counter-productive but you need to drink lots - water mostly but get somebody to get you some Lucozade or something like Dioralyte too. You will have lost a LOT of water and the Lucozade will give you a bit of energy and may help settle things down. Don't worry about eating, just drink to avoid dehydration.

Pardon the puns but laxative shits is a really shitty thing to go through, but it will pass. Just look after yourself and this will pass.

onceyoupopyoucantstop · 01/09/2019 10:17

@Squiff70 thanks for the advice il follow that. Dd has just gone for a nap (she got up waaaayyy to early) I've sprawled myself on the sofa with Netflix and a litre bottle of water x

I have had to take codeine extensively at times and it bungs me up too. Too late now, but I recommend Laxido or Movicol, which is a stool softener. I used to get it prescribed along with the codeine. It keeps everything moving without pain.
As for now, I would just drink plenty of water and relax; it will pass.
I find a lot of the otc laxatives are very violent in their action!

Wearenotyourkind · 01/09/2019 11:36

This happened to me once with laxatives too, OP. Took them to try and counteract the effect of iron tablets. I have honestly never felt pain like it, the stomach cramps were horrendous. I was also vomiting, sweating and shivering. I felt truly awful. This last for about 12 hours and then it all subsided. I will never ever take laxatives ever again.
