Puppy in crate at night

We’ve had our 12 week old puppy for almost 4 weeks now. He sleeps really well in his crate from about 10pm when he goes in until about 7.30 when he barks and we get up with him.
I am following the breeder’s suggestion of not getting up to him in the night (he sleeps without a peep anyway) and having his bed at one side of the crate and a puppy pad at the other for him to toilet on and just throw the pad away in the morning. That’s all fine- he uses the pad not his bed etc but I’m just wondering if I’m doing the right thing? Will he stop going to the toilet on the pad when he can hold it longer or just carry on going on it because he thinks it’s ok to poo on the mat? Just to add, we don’t use pads anywhere else in the house- he is taken out regularly through the day to wee/poo Sorry for all the questions. I’m a first fine puppy owner 🙈

Just to add, dog does not wake us at all to go out through the night. We are not ignoring him or anything

My pup is 10 weeks and she can go till about 6 without peeing. We found she would use the pad if it was there so we took it away and she hasn’t had a pee indoors( at night!) for a week. 6 am starts are a killer though. She sleeps in a crate but with the door open and access to the utility room.

Okay, thanks. So maybe I should take the lad away from tbt crate.
What time does your pup get out for their last toilet?

She goes out about 11pm. She has one wee accident a day, usually because she is too busy with a game and forgets herself! How is your pup for biting. Ours is a she devil!

Oh yes the biting!!!! It’s been awful here too but I. Have now started say no and stop playing with him. If he continues I put him in his crate for cool down. This has helped and he is now less bitey.. we’ll for now anyway 🤞🤞
