Cat names

Before be you start, the cat/s haven't been found yet so I can't post a photo! However, I'm so excited about getting them (hopefully 2) that I'm already thinking about names. Any ideas? I prefer human names and hate food and drink names. Thanks 😊

Ah how lovely, but you may be getting ahead of yourself! We don't know if you will have males or females...and their look/colouring will influence naming. Generally though I like old lady/men names for cats 🐱:

I wanted to call
My cats Zomorph and Fentanyl or Oramorph. But my colleagues thought this was cruel. Instead I stink with the names they came with.Magic, Maia and my new cat is Called Cheddar, which totally suits her.

Cheddar is a brilliant name, I take back what I said about food names!

How does Geoffrey sound?

As a child I had two tabbies Katie & Rana.

My dad had two long haired black cats Venus (aka Vinnie) & Ebony.

My first cat as an adult was my beautiful feisty black long haired Millie.
Now have a very sweet black & white long haired Ebony.

All female rescue cats, all named I assume by the rescue centre staff.

So that explains the two Ebonys.

As they all seemed to know their names we didn't like to change them!

I’m getting two kittens and I want to call them Dinah and Tabitha, but I can’t convince the kids.

They fail your food and drink criteria but I have Ben and Jerry. When I took them for their annual check-up last week they were the second such pair the vet had seen that day!

My friend has a cat called Margaret.

Our Bengal is called Barry. Was going to be Gary until we realised DH has an Uncle Gary

We have 'proper' names for all of our cats. I don't think you can name them til you've found them, though, as they have to suit their names. We had our newest kitten at the start of summer and she was nameless for the first fortnight because nobody could decide what she suited.

If I were to get a boy cat I would name it Louis 😆 I already have a girl named phoebe.

A family member has a boy cat called Spencer and a little gray kitten called Miso.

Our boy is Samwise, last cat was Nevis.

If you have obvious pair names and, sadly, lose one of your cats, not only will the joke not work, but you'll be reminded of this every day... Also, get a name that you are happy to have called out at the vets.

And, finally, there is a potential risk with giving your cats human names. A colleague of mine admitted that for the first 6 months or so she'd known me she'd thought I was living with another woman, because I kept saying things like, "I'm going to be home late tonight and Matilda is going to be really pissed off"....She built up a mental image of Matilda in her mind and was relieved when she discovered that Matilda* was a grumpy and slightly overweight cat, rather than a grumpy and slightly overweight human being.
