18th birthday celebration ideas

My ds will turn 18 early next year. He originally was going to have a party - friends and family type of party at a venue, but has changed his mind. He wants to go out with his friends on the Saturday night.
What shall we do as a family to celebrate? I was thinking an open house type of event at home on the Sunday. Maybe a family lunch on the Saturday?
What have others done to celebrate their child’s 18th and any other ideas of how we can celebrate?

We took her to Las Vegas, fed her an all-you-can-eat brunch then sent her up in a helicopter to the Grand Canyon in very turbulent weather.

She was very forgiving, considering.

My DS wanted to go to pizza hut. So that's what we did. Not very rock n roll I know but he enjoyed it.

Seeking inspiration also! Ds really not sure what he wants to do. Dont think the budget will stretch to Las Vegas unfortunately!

Wow I'm glad DS isn't reading DrSausage's post!

We just went out for a nice brunch with DS and his GF before they went out for the day shopping and to a few pubs. He had originally planned clubbing with a whole group of friends but then realised they weren't all 18 so wouldn't get served. He and his friends came back to watch a sports event on TV early evening and so I put some food on for them, and they then returned to the local pub where they all get served.

So quite low key.

dd had a party in a hall
ds didn't want to so we had a nice lunch out with wider family

Sorry :-) Although we live in the US so going to LV isn't that big a trip. The helicopter was fecking expensive though.
