Anyone applied for a blue badge under new rules?

I applied for a blue badge under the new invisible disability rules today for my DS who has ASD/ADHD.

Has anyone else applied? I imagine there will be a huge influx of applications and it will take a long while to hear. I didn’t manage to pay as the servers were too busy but I was informed that my application had been submitted.

@Fairylea My DD has Autism but she only becomes THAT distressed if she is overstimulated or really, really unhappy. If she was like that all the time, I'd only take her out for essential trips such as medical appointments & schools. Non-essential trips would be out of the question. I hate seeing her distressed. Luckily though, I'm able to pre-empt a meltdown and know what causes them and how to avoid. I simply do not drag her around everywhere, causing her to be frequently distressed and just shrug my shoulders and say "well she's autistic" as I've personally known many do.
My life revolves around my DD at the moment and I follow her lead as she's only 5.

As she gets older, things may change. However, i avoid distressing my child by saving most shopping trips for school hours for the time being. On a good day, she can manage a quick trip to the supermarket before anyone accuses me of keeping her prisoner! 🤣

At 5 Ds didn’t need a blue badge. At 9 he very much does to be able to make it possible to get out.

Thankfully he had one under the old criteria and it has really made life so much easier.

As I'm sure your aware Prohibited, Autism.is a massive spectrum and some children also have severe learning disabilities and or other associated disorders ,it's not always easy for some parents to predict or pre empt situations when their child might become distressed particularly when they are non verbal.

Hi..
Yes I applied for my son 2 weeks ago & I've already had a reply.
(My son gets middle rate dla)
His health conditions are as follows,

Autism/ADHD
Loss of hearing in one hear
Incontinent
Recurrent internal abscesses which affects his walking alot. The abscesses usually need cutting, so his had many surgeries. (This is an on-going health issue)
He is 9 years of age.

I applied for a blue badge, they asked for supporting evidence..(this only applies to those people who are not on the higher rate of dla)
I submitted all the consult reports from this year.

I got a reply within 2 weeks asking me to make payment (i didn't send in the payment with the application because i didn't think we was going to get it as my son wasn't on the higher rate of DLA)

They also informed me that they will be sending out the badge within the next '10 working days'
I've made the payment & now waiting for the badge.
So greatful 💛
