Slides or sliders? And where in the country are you?

DH (Northern) calls them slides.
Me (South-East) calls them sliders.

It’s causing an argument - who is right?

Flip flops (thongs are the ones that have a toe post)

Slides are pictures projected on to a screen

Sliders are ice cream sandwiched between two wafers.

NoSauce · 30/08/2019 13:21

Sliders! Flip flops to me have a toe thingy.

EleanorofCastile · 30/08/2019 13:22

I thought they were originally called pool shoes (London).

Slides or sliders seems to be what they are known as now though, since they became much more popular.

Chickydoo · 30/08/2019 13:23

Hideous!!!

Soola · 30/08/2019 13:23

Chavwear.

kaytee87 · 30/08/2019 13:24

Sliders

A couple of years ago they would have been flip flops.

West of Scotland

HCHQ · 30/08/2019 13:27

Bloody awful!!

My OH has a pair Grin

neverornow · 30/08/2019 13:28

Sliders this side

Jessbow · 30/08/2019 13:28

Flip flops.

When I was a kid and flip flops were a new thing ( 1960's) you had a choice of Toe post or X flip flops.

Anything with a thicker sole that a cheap flip flop with a strap across like that would be a mule

eeksville · 30/08/2019 13:31

Yeah pool shoes was defo a term used for them back in the day. Think it was when athletes wore them around the locker rooms.

ThatCurlyGirl · 30/08/2019 13:34

Sliders Smile

This has just reminded me of my shock at discovering nobody else at uni called a kitchen cupboard a press!

00q007 · 30/08/2019 13:48

I'd call them hideous.

soulrider · 30/08/2019 13:55

Shower Sandals

FudgeBrownie2019 · 30/08/2019 13:57

Sliders (or "those fucking ugly shoes the children keep leaving all over the garden for the dogs to eat")

TeamUnicorn · 30/08/2019 14:00

When did they stop being called a pool shoe?

Never used slides or sliders (from Midlands live NE)

happypotamus · 30/08/2019 14:01

Flip flops or sandals, but I discovered (probably on MN) that these are now fashionable and are called sliders.

cornstarch · 30/08/2019 14:04

Fuglies

TowerRingInferno · 30/08/2019 15:22

Sliders, Midlands

bringonyourwreckingball · 30/08/2019 15:25

Dd calls them sliders although I would have said slides - we’re in south yorkshire

pontiouspilates · 30/08/2019 15:27

I'm from London and they are Sliders.

ProfessorofPerspective · 30/08/2019 15:36

South West - sliders. DD has exactly those!

pistolknight · 30/08/2019 15:41

I use flip flops eldest says sliders but they have to be balenciaga or Gucci otherwise they’re an embarrassment 🤷‍♂️

wtrurly · 30/08/2019 15:42

They're sliders- that's their actual name. It's not a geographical thing, some people are just wrong.

GetUpAgain · 30/08/2019 15:45

They are called Sliders. Slides is wrong and Flip flops are totally different. Like seeing an apple and saying 'oh I call this a plum because I'm from x part of the country.' Its still an apple you donkey.

amusedbush · 30/08/2019 15:53

Sliders - in Glasgow.
