Slides or sliders? And where in the country are you?

DH (Northern) calls them slides.
Me (South-East) calls them sliders.

It’s causing an argument - who is right?

Sliders. I'm in NW.

eddiemairswife · 30/08/2019 12:35

Until I read this I had no idea what sliders were.
To me 'slides' are what little girls wear to keep their hair out of their eyes.

bruffin · 30/08/2019 12:36

Ive only heard sliders london/herts/essex , but would call flipflops or sandals myself

Mirrormirror999 · 30/08/2019 12:38

Definitely sliders in fashion retail

motorcyclenumptiness · 30/08/2019 12:38

Aren't 'sliders' burgers? That could make for an interesting BBQ.

BEDinhalfanhour · 30/08/2019 12:38

YABU to not ask -

What is the difference between mules and slides?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 30/08/2019 12:39

Slides. Sliders are mini-burgers.

IScreamForIceCreams · 30/08/2019 12:41

depends if wear them with our without socks ;-)

Mirrormirror999 · 30/08/2019 12:41

Mules tend to have a heel

FuriousVexation · 30/08/2019 12:41

Flip flops. Originally from SE, have lived all over the UK. Never heard them called sliders or slides!

Relationshipsajoke · 30/08/2019 12:42

Sliders. I’m south east.

Flip flops are the ones with the bits between the toe and slides are nothing.

QuestionableMouse · 30/08/2019 12:42

Flip flops (80s kid from the North East)

BEDinhalfanhour · 30/08/2019 12:44

Slides. Slides. Slides. Even with a £400 difference.

They will always be a slide to me.

Mine are from Tesco

whiteroseredrose · 30/08/2019 12:47

Flip flops here too

eeksville · 30/08/2019 12:51

Think they were called slides when they were in fashion in the 90s but sliders is now the common term.

They are not flip flops

KatherineJaneway · 30/08/2019 12:58

Sandals

Zakana · 30/08/2019 13:00

South East England - we call them sliders (well my 17 year old daughter does, and they have to be high end or designer brand otherwise it’s just embarrassing) I can’t keep them on my feet (wanders off to put her crocs on)

eeksville · 30/08/2019 13:00

It's been a trend in America for decades popular with sports stars, rappers etc. Anyone remember the one jogger leg pulled up trend 🤣

shearwater · 30/08/2019 13:00

Sliders, but only in the last couple of years.

Before that I think I would have called them pool shoes.

LaMarschallin · 30/08/2019 13:02

In the past I'd have gone for mules.
Now that the term has been invented Smile I'd go for slides.

I thought flip-flops always had a separator between the big and the second toe?

WooMaWang · 30/08/2019 13:04

I think it’s all just subcategory of sandal territory.

Flip flops have bits between the toes. (Pool) sliders are the abominations in the OP.

LaMarschallin · 30/08/2019 13:16

Just to add in a silly joke I once heard:

Flip-flips are sinister but flop-flops are all right.

blackpinkinyourarea · 30/08/2019 13:17
