Fuck fuck fuck, just transferred x10 the amount of cash I meant to

Bolloxs, just transferred 1500 instead of 150 to another person for a deposit. They are on holiday and not contactable. I am an idiot. They will return it, I know but I'm fucked in the meantime.

Can the bank recall it or anything?

checkeredredshorts · 30/08/2019 11:34

Are they not contactable on holiday?

Give it a try if he happy to help someone in this situation

HandsReachingOut · 30/08/2019 11:35

Contact the bank immediately. They may be able to reverse before the transfer happens. It's usually same day if the same bank but if it is from one bank to another it takes over 24 hours.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 30/08/2019 11:36

How long until they’re contactable?

HeadintheiClouds · 30/08/2019 11:36

How can they be non contactable? Nobody is, these days.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/08/2019 11:37

Contact your bank ASAP. Even if you don't get the money back straight away, it flags it in the system that the amount sent was incorrect, and sets the procedure going for it to be repaid, if the recipient is unco-operative.

From their point of view, they might think you are trying to scam them, with the 'whoops I sent you too much money, please send the excess back to me' scam where the recipient sends back the excess and then the original amount mysteriously gets recalled too.

Maybe the OP means the other person can’t access their online bank account until they get back, rather than she can’t call them up.

I never login to my bank from a public WiFi at hotels, for example.

ButterflyOne1 · 30/08/2019 11:40

The bank can't do anything. There's always a two stage process for confirming the payment.

Your only option may be to contact the bank and ask for a temporary overdraft whilst you await the funds to be returned if you have no money now.

IScreamForIceCreams · 30/08/2019 12:44

surely the other person can do telephone banking if they can't get online?

tooyoungat40 · 30/08/2019 13:59

Hello everyone, sorry I dissapeared, I was sorting it all out, then had to collect children and ferry them to different places.

THANKFULLY I was able to get hold of her, and she has an app that allows transfer of money by mobile telephone. The amount is limited so she transferred half today and will transfer the remainder in the morning. She's in Canada and had just woken up to a barrage of text messages and emails from yours truly. I was in a flat spin, as you can imagine.

Anyhoo, I am now sat on the sofa on an adrenalin comedown. Cup of tea in order

Good weekend everyone!

So, not out of contact at all Confused

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 30/08/2019 14:31

😂

The shit people will post on here for a bit of attention.

Impatienceismyvirtue · 30/08/2019 15:18

I find it unbelievable that people can’t imagine being uncontactable. We’ve just been away on a cabin trip in Norway - no WiFi, no phone signal, no electricity, no landline (and no flushing toilet, if we’re covering all bases). Completely uncontactable unless you drove to our cabin and spoke to us in person - and only the person we booked with knew the address we were staying at. We do these holidays a couple of times a year 🤷🏻‍♀️

HeadintheiClouds · 30/08/2019 15:24

This person wasn’t uncontactable 🤷🏻‍♀️

elasti · 30/08/2019 15:58

Oh for fucks sake, give the OP a break. She posted in a flap. No harm in that.

tooyoungat40 · 30/08/2019 17:14

Who wouldn't flap? That sick to the stomach feeling when you realise you've made a major boo boo and you know the person who can help you is in Canada on a road trip in the middle of fricking nowhere? Jeez, you lot must have balls of steel if you would not have panicked in a similar manner after initial attempts at contact failed.

Thanks to the kind folk who replied.
