Need some mince-spiration!

Have a pound of turkey mince in the fridge for dinner but no enthusiasm for it. If it were regular mince I'd have a thousand delicious ideas but turkey mince is just so bland that it's hard to drum up anything half tasty. We had turkey lasagne earlier in the week and that was ok, but don't fancy it again so soon.

I haven't used turkey mince for ages but I used to use it for chilli as, it is quite bland. Anything with a bit of spice ie Tacos would do

GrimDamnFanjo · 30/08/2019 10:07

Curry spices and add a bit of veg eg onion and maybe peas to make a kind of keema?

No suggestions but would love some ideas for beef mince if you have some to share please!!

You could spice it up and make burgers or meatballs?

Heymummee · 30/08/2019 10:41

Burgers! Really tasty and you can add all sorts of herbs and spices depending on what you like.

I've made this as a low carb option with beef, but I think it would also work with turkey mince. Fry shredded cabbage, onion and celery in butter until soft. Put to one side, and cook the turkey mince in the same pan adding ginger, garlic and chilli. When browned, add back your cabbage mixture plus some vinegar (white wine or rice) and some sesame oil. Stir well...I make mine in a wok...and cook until everything is steaming. You could serve with rice. Peppers would probably work instead of cabbage too.

Chinese dumplings? Depends how much time you have I suppose!

Turkey burgers?

Ohmybloomers · 30/08/2019 13:27

Love the idea of chilli or keema, nice strong flavours to give a bit of kick to the mince.

Haven't found a turkey burger recipe that didn't taste bland unfortunately, though I know there must be one out there somewhere.

Stirfry sounds ok and Chinese dumplings sound interesting, will have a look for recipes.

Thanks for the ideas!

I'd add some Thai flavours and serve in lettuce leaves. Loads of ginger, garlic, chilli. Bit of lemongrass, some fish sauce. Yummy!

Bloodybridget · 30/08/2019 14:09

I think if you added some bacon lardons it would perk the turkey up a bit, then it might be tasty enough to make a cottage pie (what would you call it for poultry? Poulterer's pie?). With herbs etc?

SamBeckett · 30/08/2019 18:16

@TheFuturels , I use all of the ingredients you recommended plus a LOT of fresh coriander all chopped up very fine and mixed with either Turkey or pork mince.

Add a hand full of fresh bread crumbs if the mixture is a bit wet
