Post-sex headache?

I was going to name change but there are so many trolly pervs looking for sex stories I thought it best not to.

Last night after a longer than usual session with OH, I had the most awful headache. I lay down afterwards and thought "oh, bit of a headache" so took some paracetamol and within minutes I was sat on the end of the bed, cradling my head and wondering whether to call 999!* I've never felt pain like it. It was all over the top of my head and throbbing. I had to stay in one position for minor relief, any movement left me in agony. After 15 mins it subsided enough for me to lie down and I went to sleep. Have woken this morning and feel like I've got a hangover, dull headache.

Background : work has been stressful, tiny hot and unusually noisy office. Tues night into Monday morning had a nagging headache. Sorted with paracetamol. Weds is my last working day of the week so I had half a bottle of wine from 6pm to 9pm (glass with my tea and a couple of glasses watching TV) I wasn't drunk by any means. I also ate some Roses chocolates (about 6)

I feel a bit silly going to the doctors but I worry becsuse I've never had such a severe headache except *I suffered a brain aneurysm as a teenager. I have no memory of the pain so can't compare. This makes me a little neurotic and questioning my judgement re: do I need to see a doctor or is it just a migraine.

I realise you're not all medical professionals but wondered if anyone has :
A) experience of post sex headaches (I'm not after details of sex obvs!) - I darent Google as will end up diagnosing myself with a tumour or suchlike.

B) does it sound like a migraine?Stress plus having the wine and choc makes me wonder if the combination has triggered it .

C)paracetamol has taken the edge off it - any other OTC medication useful?

Thanks if you've got this far!

I would go to see the GP with your history.

Flower777 · 29/08/2019 15:36

It definitely could be a migraine. Sounds like an utterly classic time to get one.

Also, with your history, definitely worth checking with the GP.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 29/08/2019 19:41

Thanks for your replies. I thought it was easing today but it's still not gone, so I will see gp tomorrow.

I'm trying not to panic as I know the likelihood is it's a migraine. Better to get checked out though, for peace of mind if nothing else.

Post sex headache, depending on the position of your head and neck, could be benign or serious. I'm a chronic migraineur, and the only time I've had a post sex head pain was postural related, and it was agony (and the beginning of months of shoulder problems!).

However, my concern is that this sounds like a "thunderclap" headache, which is something that requires medical attention urgently. Especially with your history.

Frankly, I'd head to A&E, but if you want to decide first, give 111 a call.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 29/08/2019 20:03

Thanks for your advice. I was on the verge last night of A&E

At the moment it's eased with paracetamol so I will go to GP first thing and get it investigated.

I'd definitely see doctor, but an ex used to get agonising headaches after climax and he was diagnosed with cluster headaches

awishes · 29/08/2019 20:52

It's something I have had, I thought I was dying it was so painful, and a couple of friends have told me the same after particularly long "sessions". Hope this puts your mind at rest.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 29/08/2019 21:22

We don't normally have midweek "sessions" let alone an hour or more😂. (we don't live together and have 4 kids between us so we take it when we can get it, which isn't frequent! Tiny violin anyone!? )

Dr tomorrow but thanks for replies as am even hopeful it isn't something hideous.

How did you get on? @TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 01/09/2019 14:09

Couldn't get an appointment at all 😡 standard at our surgery. So I'm going to be calling again this week. Headache gone and have since had sex without any side effects so think it was a one off. Need to get blood pressure checked though and a once over to be on the safe side.

Thanks for asking x

Sex headaches are a thing:
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/jun/07/experience-i-was-hospitalised-with-a-sex-headache

A friend (male) was recently hospitalised following one. He’s absolutely fine now.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 06/09/2019 17:13

Just to update having finally seen the Dr, I have sinusitis! I'm on antibiotics and feeling sorry for myself.

Flowers Thanks for all the advice

I remember post sex headaches from when I was young and enthusiastic! I think it was all the yelling I didShockBlush.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 06/09/2019 17:19

Ha, no yelling that night until the headache itself 😂
