Climate Strike Day at work

There is a climate strike on 20 September which is also including adults. I am wondering what to suggest to the small company I work for that we do about it.

  1. Officially declare a climate crisis, join in and shut down for the day (paying all staff)
  1. Spend the day having a staff meeting/planning ideas on how we can be more environmentally conscious.
  1. Ignore it.
  1. Something else.

MNers that work, what are you doing?

No. 3 here.

I don't see what a climate strike could possibly achieve?

Also, I get paid so little as it is I really cannot afford to take a day off for something like this. Would rather work the day and give the day's wages to a charity, to be honest!

If I was in a position to do anything I’d go for option 2 as it could have wider benefits - environmental and team building.

Mass labour strikes (ie on a national level) have a history of success but I don’t know realistically how this will work on an international scale. But I absolutely think everyone should acknowledge it so if actually striking is out of the question for your workplace (although them still paying is exactly the kind of impact this should have) then I think spending the day on environmental policy at work is great so long as it also achieves an action plan.

  1. Something else

Suggest the company ask for volunteers/suggestions of ways that they can make a difference. Conserving energy, lower powered lightbulbs, better recycling facilities more energy efficient appliances etc etc all stuf that we might do at home.

Getting them to pay everyone to basically have a day off if probably not going to be well received.

Thanks - has anyone else got plans already for what their company will do about this day?
