Deciding whether or not to start trying for a baby at 23

Me and my boyfriend have been together 3 years now and been talking about trying for a baby the last year but neither of us no if we are 100% we both really want children and I always said I wanted them before I was 25 or when I was 25 but I'm just scared I'm going to miss my life and holidays before kids maybe this sounds selfish but I don't want to bring a child into the world to regret not waiting I don't really have any friends to talk to about this so any other people experiences would be very helpful

This is one of those decisions which determine how easy or difficult your life will be later.

Agree 100% - just wait, there’s everything to gain and little to loose

I had my first at 23 and my second at 26. I thinks its 6 and 2 threes really. At the time I was looking after babies while my friends were spending all their wages on holidays but now my friends are starting to have babies and dealing with all of that whilst I have easy to look after 9 and 12 year olds and in a few more years when theirs are just staring primary my oldest will be leaving school.

I had my first at 24 and regret doing it at that age massively. I wish I had waited until I was around 30. There was just so much I didn't get the opportunity to do because I had such serious responsibilities.

If you're not sure wait.

You don’t sound sure at all, so I don’t know why you would rush in to it. You’ve got plenty of time. Any particular reason you’re set 25 as a target?

Live your life first, there's no rush at 23.

whywhywhy6 · 28/08/2019 17:40

It’s completely fine to wait. Get your career and financial independence strengthened, give your relationship more time to solidify and do the selfish things you want (and should) do! Travel, stay out late, sleep away the weekend, study etc etc. There’s no rush.

Wait! Have your fun now; it’s so much more difficult once the kids come along

I had my baby at 24 but honestly if you have any doubts I would wait. Part of me wished I'd had more adventures and though I wouldn't change anything now, if you already suspect you might feel that way then you probably will. Maybe make a list of things you want to do first, like a baby bucket list.

Personally no, I wouldn't.

Your early 20s really are the best days of your life. Just enjoy it!
