What scam could this be - online H&M order

We have had 2 packages delivered this week from H&M that we haven't ordered, a children's babygrow then a men's blazer, both our address and DPs name but with a different email address (although the second order had a slightly diff email to the first as it was the same apart from a number added, the emails nothing like ours) DP has never ordered from H&M although I do, the payment methods were 'invoice' and on the second 'klarna' have called H&M and they can't tell us anything for data protection and suggested we could contact local police. What scam could this be if it is one? There's been no unusual transactions on DPs account he has checked

can your husband check his credit score to see if there have been any credit cards applied for recently? that's the only thing I can think of.

Stravapalava · 27/08/2019 16:52

Klarna is paypal credit. Sounds like someone has set up an account in your names, someone who can't pay for stuff themselves. I'm not sure how they are going to actually get their items though?

brookelopez · 27/08/2019 16:53

sorry, your partner!

I know clear score are a free credit check company and have a phone app.

H and m do a thing whereby you only pay for the items after you've decided you want to keep them.

Do you live somewhere where your packages can be easily intercepted?

Someone did something similar too me years ago, set up a credit account in my name and left instructions for the package to be left outside the door.

I only found out when the store card letter came. Was no problem to cancel it all. Never had further problems.

You may get someone knocking on the door claiming to be a delivery driver who needs to collect the incorrectly delivered parcel. This usually happens with higher value goods ( may be testing the water?).

Lauren83 · 27/08/2019 17:01

Thanks all, advised him to check his credit report, I did wonder if someone might knock on if they do I will say I have sent the items back to H&M, the first item we thought was a gift from someone as we have a new baby, the first item was £3 and the second £50. It's easy to deliver here we are just in a normal town house and I'm on mat leave so usually around to accept parcels

Klarna is not PayPal credit. Klarna is a payment processing company. They do offer credit so they might not be paid for, but they do also process payments so it's possible that someone else has paid already.

AgentProvocateur · 27/08/2019 19:27

The scam is they get a low-value order delivered to your address then change it on the account address to an empty property, order a pile of expensive things with the same account. You need to get one order delivered before you can change address.

AlwaysCheddar · 27/08/2019 20:12

Put it in writing to H&M that you’ve not ordered this, it’s fraud and you will contact the police.

brookelopez · 27/08/2019 22:00

I don't think klarna shows on your credit score as it doesn't do credit checks. I think the payments via klarna are usually split into three, one being taken at dispatch of the order, one a month later and then the last a month after the second payment. I'd probably try and contact them and tell them it's fraud.

cherrytreecottage · 27/08/2019 22:45

I've ordered using Klarna before & it was essentially a "pay for what you keep" thing.
Yeah sounds to me like someone may have set one (or possibly 2) Klarna accounts up in your details - will track to see if it's been delivered/returned first before changing the address & Wracking up a load of debt in your name.
I had issues with Klarna actually - I returned the stuff but they didn't update the status on my account which meant I was being asked to pay for the stuff I didn't even keep. They were really hard to contact & customer service was terrible! Good luck, hope it gets sorted!

Thanks for all the replies, I have reported online to action fraud and they advised its likely someone has ordered fraudulently but it wouldn't let them change the delivery address, DP had checked his credit history and there's an application to H&M online on 20/8, scum bags!

It seems they have also had a big shopping spree at mothercare too including a Chico next to me crib!

oh wow! hope you can get it all sorted out without too much trouble.

GreenTulips · 28/08/2019 13:42

Yes I also think they will do a massive online order to another address.

He needs to be clear to H&M and check his security on his credit files

Lauren83 · 28/08/2019 14:56

Spoke to action fraud, H&M, his bank and also Klarna as that's who provided the credit so now so everything's been closed down, it was Klarna that said about the big mothercare order and that hasn't turned up here so far so maybe they managed to receive it, he is so careful with everything and never shops online himself as is paranoid about things like this, hopefully we caught it quickly
