Not got my railcard

Need to go on the train tomorrow me and my child. Forgotten my Railcard.
Should I just take the risk and buy a ticket with a Railcard on a machine?
What will happen if the ticket person on the train asks to see it?

I have a phone app, is that an option?

Not sure if you have to have the app OR an actual card.

Onacleardayyoucansee · 26/08/2019 13:52

You can use the railcard app

purpleme12 · 26/08/2019 13:52

No it's the card I've got

If you don't have the card on you and get tickets check you'll either have to buy a brand new full price ticket for the journey or pay a penalty fair.

maddy68 · 26/08/2019 13:55

I've just been on the train , they checked my rail card and the person next to me didn't have theirs and they had to pay for a new ticket. My "two together" Railcard also has an app so have a look if yours does then you have it!

NoBaggyPants · 26/08/2019 13:56

If you don't have the digital card, you'll need to buy a full price ticket.

When you get caught, you'll have to pay a penalty fare for each person travelling.

You will just have to buy a normal ticket unfortunately.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 26/08/2019 13:58

You will need to buy a full price ticket!

If/when you get caught they will have you buy one anyway. Otherwise anyone could say “I’ve got a railcard, honest”

Likethebattle · 26/08/2019 14:07

I think if you keep your ticket receipt you can ask for a refund I believe.

purpleme12 · 26/08/2019 14:10

Oh no. If I buy a normal ticket I can get a refund do you mean? If I show the station another day?

On the app it says I need a download code and I don't know if I've got one at all or how to get one? I just got mine at the station

You pay for a full price ticket but can then claim a refund (once per year) from the relevant train company.

purpleme12 · 26/08/2019 15:22

Looks like I'll have to try claim it back I guess.
So annoying

Something similar happened to me recently. Went to London having used our two together railcard to buy tickets. Didn’t realise til we were on our way that the card has expired between buying the tickets and travelling. The conductor pointed it out but let us off on the way out but we bought new tickets to come home. Totally our fault and he was nice to let us off one way to be fair
