Met my fiancé almost 9 years ago at a bar. Wasn't interested in him in the slightest, but found out his friend had been assaulted in a fight that night so messaged him to see if they were okay.
A year and a half later we got together, and we're getting married next year!

How did you guys meet your significant other?

In a mutual friend’s kitchen at a house party - I was 15. He was 20 and dating someone else at the time, but we hit it off in a friendly way due to our shared interests. Spent a lot of the evening chatting away.
Then I didn’t really see or speak to him for about a year as he was still dating the other person, and our paths just didn’t cross.
But when we did get back into contact, it was epic Grin
We got married 3 years after that. We’ve now been married 5 years and are expecting our 3rd child imminently!

JudgeLinda · 26/08/2019 02:09

In a office - he was my boss.

@ThePolishWombat congratulations! I hope little one has a safe arrival!!
I live the not-quite-a-love-story stories!

Mines quite embarrassing but also quite romantic (to me anyway!) 20 years ago I drank way too much one night met someone in a club and did something I never ever did, went back to his and woke up the next morning totally clueless as to where I was, and remembering very little from the night before but it wasn't awkward we woke up starting chatting like we'd known each other forever and had loads in common we stayed there all day and that was it we were inseparable, within a week we'd booked 2 holidays together for later that year we were so sure we'd still be together. Weirdly we only actually got married earlier this year 20 years after that strange night!

Cataholic · 26/08/2019 02:30

@thegreymethod I love that!!!

@Thegreymethod

It is nice to hear a one night stand happy ending. Most times I used to wake up thinking "What the hell was I thinking" I would then leave a false telephone number and make a speedy exit. It reminds me of the film Stupid Crazy Love - which is one of my favourite films.

OLD. We had our first date, arranged to meet up the following morning, met up every day that first week then moved in together at the end of it. That was 9 years ago!

Thegreymethod · 26/08/2019 02:45

@Cataholic thank you! Maybe not one to tell the kids when they ask how we met 🤣

@JudgeLinda haha thank you, I've never seen it I'll have to have a look for it! I spent the first year cringing whenever I spoke to his mum thinking yes I'm the girl who stumbled out the house at tea time after spending the night with your son 😩🤣 (we were only 19 so both still lived with parents!)

We met at the train station after school when we were 15. We'd never talked before, despite going to school together for 10 years, as we were from entirely different social circles. He was very reclusive, shy and academic, spending his lunchtimes in the library playing chess. I was one of those irritating teenagers who thought they were too grown up/cool for everyone at school, was quite talkative in class and dismissive of actually having to work hard. We hit it off immediately. We started waiting for each other outside of school to walk to the station together (slowly, so we'd miss the first train and get longer to talk). We were "friends" for a few months (just chatting at the train station, never in school) and then one day he kissed me and we've never looked back. Bit cringe I guess! We were the gossip of the school Grin.

OLD. Wasn't even after anything serious, just wanted some confidence after going through a tough time in life. He was my second date (first - disaster!) and we just clicked.

Nearly 5 years' later engaged and in our own home. We have a beautiful baby together Smile

Modestandatinybitsexy · 26/08/2019 03:26

The first day of sixth form. We just clicked and spent the whole day together. I had a boyfriend but broke it off pretty quickly but then DH had a girlfriend so we were just friends for a couple of months until our Christmas social when he kissed me.

We got married on the 10 year anniversary of that kiss and now have two kids and a house together.

Out on a date with a guy who turned out to be an absolute sexist dickhead. I couldn't wait to get away. His mates turned up at venue to & they were chatting music & football whilst I sat there bored.

Was looking around room locked eyes with another guy thought 'he looks good'. Then had a feeling to go over and say something to him.. I never make the 1st move but thought if I don't I may never bump into this guy again. I'm glad I did - 6 years later we're still together.

First time - we met at work. It was my first job and he was the staff training officer. Broke up after some meddling by others . We'd caused a scandal !

Second time - fast forward 24 years, he contacted me on Facebook. We started talking on Messenger and emails , did that for about 9 months, then I flew to see him and bingo - that was it. We spent a week in a hotel room and never came out , lived on room service. He came to my home town and we moved in together straight away. Not advised by MN but it worked for us !

playftseforme · 26/08/2019 04:58

At a sports event - turns out we were both members of the same sports club but our paths hadn't crossed before. (22 years ago now...)

Foslady · 26/08/2019 08:47

OLD - was my first date, then he messed up before the 2nd and dumped him......always liked him though......got in touch a year later, took thinks slower and found he was the great guy I though he was!

lastqueenofscotland · 26/08/2019 08:55

A one night stand!
The next morning he was talking about how he was going off to Russia for work in a few days for about a month. But asked for my number. Didn’t think I’d hear from him again but he dropped me a message when he’d been there for about 2/3 days. And the rest as they say...

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 26/08/2019 09:08

First full day of university, almost 23 years ago now! We were friends for ages, fell out completely, got together briefly, split up, got back together after we graduated. He's the love of my life. Almost 20 years together, married for 8, finally had kids 2 years ago 😂 Too busy having fun together!

TryingToDrinkMoreWater · 26/08/2019 09:20

I met my husband when doing my postgraduate degree. We were friends for a while before going out. We are still great friends and love each other's company.

thelaststraw123 · 26/08/2019 09:59

OLD here too!

I was wanting a confidence boost after a shocking relationship. I chatted with a few people, but really clicked with one. Wasn't my usual "type" but conversation was flowing and there was a definite connection.
Went on a first date and got on like a house on fire!
Been together ever since (only 8 months so far) but I've moved to be closer to him now and life is all good 😉

JuniperOakPark · 26/08/2019 10:14

On a night out with mates, he was a friend of a friend of a friend. I was 22 he was 21, I had graduated uni and was working he was about to start his final year and was home for the summer.

That was 23 years ago. Married 20 years, have two children 16 and 13. Still gives me butterflies to this day. He is my everything.
