Any crocheters - loop stitch disaster!

Every year I make a toy for each of my twins for their birthday. This year one of them is a lion with a loop stitch for the mane.

I’m following this video

The loops are coming out fine - the problem is that the loops aren’t ‘locked’ in place so when you stretch the fabric (it’s on essentially a hood that stretches over the head) they mostly disappear.

Is this how it should be? Or should the loops be secured so this shouldn’t happen? Have already had to rip it all out once and I’m on a deadline!

I've not tried a loop stick myself, but this one claims to be a more secure version : www.interweave.com/article/crochet/loop-stitch-tutorial/

Why don't you try on a fresh chain just to see if it works?

More complicated but possibly even better:

I prefer to use charts/diagrams than watch videos as they all hold the hook funny!

Thanks all - I tried the dummies link above and it didn’t work for me but will try the others in the morning, thank you! I don’t have time to start something else from scratch so need to crack or find an alternative!
