Am I going to set the house on fire?

I’m in the middle of writing uni dissertation, kept getting a pop up every hour for a restart needed. Decided to update while I was having half an hour break... it’s only on 22% Hmm

So decided I’ll take the dog for a walk now while it’s finishing updating. If I leave the laptop plugged in will it be safe? Not sure what I expect to happen but I’ve always had it drummed in to me to unplug things before leaving.

Make sure it's on a table/worktop and it will be fine. Enjoy your break.

Blimey I'm definitely lucky to be alive if that's the case! I woundn't think twice about doing that. Always done it.

I leave my laptop on and connected to 2 monitors all day everyday, like in every office in the world. It will be fine. For peace of mind get a surge protected extension cable.

It would not occur to me to unplug my laptop when i leave the house. Mine is elderly and loses charge very quickly so it is often plugged in.

Agree with first response.

I'm the opposite. I always unplug things that pose an overheating risk. Yes people leave them plugged in every day and it's fine, but sometimes, just occasionally, it's not fine.

Just make sure the power settings are set to 'always on' and it's not going to go into snooze mode!

Do you turn the fridge off every time you leave the house?!

MmmBlowholes · 25/08/2019 17:17

I thought this was gonna be about a tumble dryer or something! You're aware that offices exist, right? You know at the supermarket, they don't unplug all the tills when they're not being used!

I leave things plugged in all the time. I even go out with the tumble dryer on Shock your laptop will be fine
