Scraped my car tonight

I'm really stressed out due to a big work project and am all over the place, tired, not paying attention etc. I'm also getting married in a few weeks and there's all the associated emotions and stresses with that as well.

Tonight I drove home from my parents' house and noticed a car approaching my driveway. I slowed down to let it pass then noticed it had stopped very close to my driveway. It was a taxi and people were getting into it.

So, stupid me, I decided to go up my driveway as it was sitting there. Tried to get the angle right and failed. There was a huge scraping noise as my car brushed against the bloody wall at the side. I carried on then got out to inspect the damage.

So when I got out there was no damage to the end of the car as I'd expected but when I looked at the wheel there's huge scrapes and bits hanging off by the wheel arch and door panel there. It looks awful.

I'm really pissed off with myself (as well as the taxi driver for being so close to the drive) and just annoyed in general. Want to cry.

What should I do? Find a garage who can help? My friend mentioned getting a new panel somewhere. Ugh I'm rubbish with cars (as well as driving them, it seems).

It's not the taxi drivers fault and it's not the end of the world. It's just a scrape. Go to a body shop garage thing and they'll give you a price to fix it

Sorry this happened OP Flowers

If bits really are hanging off it may be a bit beyond Chips Away, but they are pretty reasonable value in repairing scrapes

Go to a car body shop and get a quote. Don’t mess about trying to get panels, the garage will do that if it is needed.

Honestly, relax. It's just a car. Cars can be fixed. No one was hurt, no one died, your car will be fine. You made a minor mistake, that's all.

Any car accident where everyone walks away is a good one. You can mend cars with money, you can't do that with people.
A car is just a thing - it can be sorted. Annoying? Yes! But in the final analysis it is a first word problem.

I did the same thing today! Misjudged a parking space and scraped the front side of my car on a wall. It was really hot, I'm six months pregnant and was in a rush and I just made a mistake. I am really pissed off with myself, but like you OP, nobody was hurt or even at risk of being hurt and I only damaged my own property. I'm trying not to be too hard on myself but won't make the same mistake again.

My husband this this - scraped the entire side of the passenger side against a wall. Toddler went ballistic when he got out of the car with his Dad ' You've messed my lovely red car - fix it Dad, get the same red colour '

It happens to us all Flowers

I did it in a car park against a pillar. Luckily for me it was my first car a few. Months after passing test so wasn't mega fussed.. No hanging bits tho.
Then I was. Contemplating a new car anyway and my gearbox went so glad I didn't get the scrape repaired.

It happens. Sleep on it. Get a few quotes tomorrow. Also. If u have SM. Ask in there. You never know someone maybhave a friend of a friend who can do it for you

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I have a huge guilt complex and am feeling pretty bad about this. With a wedding coming up as well (albeit eloping to Las Vegas) I'm trying to save money.

But nobody was hurt, so that's something to be thankful for.

I actually did this once before not long after getting the car, but it wasn't as badly damaged. Slid against a wall on an icy day. My dad got it fixed for me so I don't know how much it was. I will ask tomorrow and see what I can do. Hopefully it's not too expensive.

Time for bed now, thanks again.
