What fresh hell is this, I am fine with spiders, I have them in my house. This one is getting closer to my indoors! What is it!

That’s a false widow isn’t it?

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 24/08/2019 20:12

Is it! Are they dangerous?

MooominMamma · 24/08/2019 20:15

Yes, it's a false widow.

Badmgr · 24/08/2019 20:15

False widow. Not dangerous but will bite if threatened but not particularly venomous so don’t worry!

JudgeRindersMinder · 24/08/2019 20:15

Don’t be so dramatic, speaking about moving 🙄

Petrol and a blowtorch should do the job Grin

Isthebigwomanhere · 24/08/2019 20:18

Kill it!
Kill it with 🔥

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 24/08/2019 20:18

I am having a bbq sitting right under it! My partner and brother in law are almost crying like babies 😂
So, do I move it? I won't kill, I refuse to.

OP posts:
Badmgr · 24/08/2019 20:20

Just leave it where it is - it witness so any harm!

Or for fun you could tell partner and bil that’s its a black widow and enjoy their reaction.... (as long as they won’t kill it)..

NeverSayFreelance · 24/08/2019 20:21

False widow! Their bite is nasty and hurts but they are not dangerous. Either move her elsewhere in the garden or leave her be. But if you do move her, make sure she can't bite you. It'll hurt.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 24/08/2019 20:23

Leave it alone and it will leave you alone. Simple

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 24/08/2019 20:26

They keep staring at it! We are an anti kill family, well DD and I am anyway! So they won't be killing it. I may start freaking them out.

Burn your house down. There is no other option

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 24/08/2019 20:27

As spiders go it is beautiful!

OP posts:
usersouthcoast · 24/08/2019 20:29

@dementedma is definitely right

Biancadelrioisback · 24/08/2019 20:35

Do you have any vinegar? They hate the smell (along with peppermint) so you can put it around your windows (outside) and they'll move out

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 24/08/2019 20:37

As spiders go it is beautiful! My DP may be a spider, he doesn't like peppermint either

I think that’s a false widow. Where are you. I think they were originally imported in bananas in to Torquay and have now spread through most of the uk.

They are shy. Usually to be found in the dark corner of sheds etc. The most distinguishing thing to look out for is the funnel web. This type of spider is reclusive and is best left alone. I usually look out for the presence of this type of funnel web as these kind of spiders are more static and therefore .venomous but most of the ridiculous stories in the press relate to the infections of the bite and not the venom.

Instead of killing spiders I prefer to study them.

shiveringtimber · 24/08/2019 20:53

I would have been calling the exterminator. But that's me.

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 24/08/2019 21:08

@darkcloudsandsunnyskies
We are in birmingham, he is in a hole on the outside of our kitchen door.
Im not sure about funnel web, it is now dark. BIL has said it has bigger biceps than his wife. To be fair it probably does!

My mum now wants to come to out house to have pics with it.
I will be leaving her/him where it is.

The only good spider is a dead spider! Flame thrower or bulldozer
Either way get rid of it!! 🤣 🤣

Raynedance · 26/08/2019 09:17

I'd definitely kill it, every person I know who had been bitten has had awful reaction.

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 26/08/2019 11:03

He is still there, sitting over my kitchen door.
Tried to get him yesterday, as soon as you go near him he runs into a hole! He is too close to his hole to block it off. He is higher than us, so when we try yo move him we have to hope he doesn't fall.

OP posts:
Iputthescrewinthetuna · 26/08/2019 15:35

I think he has gone! I am not happy about this, I don't know where he has gone!
