My wedding ring just arrived...

It's beautiful but it's a tad tight! I got it from Etsy and I'm getting married in a few weeks. It's nearly the same size as my engagement ring so I thought it would be ok but now I'm slightly panicking.

It is quite hot today and I've been outdoors rushing around (I'm a volunteer) prior to coming to my parents where it was delivered, so maybe that's why my finger has swollen up? Heat plus exertion?

So I need to push it onto my finger and once it's on its not twirling round my finger like the engagement ring. Although I'm not wearing that today so maybe I would have a similar situation with that. Because my fingers tend to swell. But I'm just like Confused. One jeweller measured me as an L. But my engagement ring is an M, brought down from an N which was too big. This one is an M and a half. So it should be ok.

Also we're getting married in Las Vegas where it will be boiling hot so DP might not even get it on my finger in the first place. Crap. I don't like feeling a ring tight round my finger.

Is there any way I can loose a bit of weight quickly or stop/prevent fingers from swelling? This has left me quite disappointed and it's not as if so can send it back. Maybe I could get it resized but then it would be an N which is too big! Wtf.

I'm struggling to take off my rings today....normally they come off easily. Try again when it cools down.

Try your engagement on to compare? I have a ring that I spin but after the gym I can struggle to remove it

I’m an L. When I get hot, my rings definitely feel too tight and I usually take them off. Probably the heat but you won’t know for certain til it cools down.

Go and run your wrists under water for a good while then try again

When purchasing my wedding ring the jeweller suggested smearing it with water based lubricant for the actual ceremony (the ring fit fine it was just his tip for the ceremony) try that? You could also find a place to upsize it - usually takes a day at most

Mamapop1 · 24/08/2019 19:36

Resizing is very easy and can be done in very small increments (less than half sizes). I would take it to a jeweler and ask them to do a slight adjustment. (My DH makes coin rings as a hobby, honestly it's super easy to stretch them a tiny bit if you have the right equipment)

I can normally twist my wedding ring around loosely, but today it is stuck tight. I think it's the weather.

If you get married somewhere hot then it might be an issue. Air con would help?! But don't resize it just for the wedding day, as that'd make it too big for general life.

WTF0ver · 24/08/2019 21:04

Thanks everyone. I have had a look at the engagement ring as well and it looks like it's the same size! The wedding ring is a little more stubborn to come off for some reason.

I just worry about circulation getting cut off! It's a horrible feeling.

I might try the lube idea lol. I also read about keeping a bucket of icy water nearby to plunge your hand into and watching your salt intake. Sigh, such a stress.

Is the wedding band much wider than the one on your engagement ring? That could be why it fits tighter IYSWIM

WTF0ver · 24/08/2019 22:28

Barely. It's only 2mm wide.

If there are no diamonds in it, it would literally take minutes for a jeweller to increase by maybe half a size, might be worth inquiring at a jeweller

WTF0ver · 24/08/2019 23:23

Last time I got a ring resized they had to send it away, so I don't think there's time for that..

I might see if I can lose a bit of finger weight. Need to lose weight anyway (do some portion control!)

Can we see the ring? I love a ring thread :-)

TalkToMeAboutSocialWorkPlease · 24/08/2019 23:31

Is it actually the size you ordered?

FishyMcFishyfingersFace · 24/08/2019 23:50

Depending on the thickness, style etc of the ring and how much it needs to go up it can be rolled to stretch it a little rather than having a piece inserted into it, this is usually quicker. Just pop into a couple of jewellers with your engagement ring, wedding ring and of course your finger to get their opinion, a price and a timescale for doing it.

Try smaller independents as they often have 'resident' goldsmiths so it can be cheaper and quicker, they are often more able to push a job through quicker than a bigger chain as can go and see the goldsmith and request a 'favour' rather than having to send it off and wait for an answer.

But there are bigger chain jewellers who have local goldsmiths too, e.g. Northern Goldsmiths in Newcastle use different people for different jobs and have a goldsmith in the town centre they can use for rush jobs. Might be worth ringing a couple to get their opinion on whether or not they can sort you out in your timescale before trolling around shops.

WTF0ver · 26/08/2019 23:32

It's palladium so might be an issue with resizing. Can enquire though. It looks like there's no difference between it and my engagement ring size wise. Maybe it's the material or shape of the ring hmm.

Rubbish pic included!
