As someone who loves traditional type birthday cake this hurts Grin(lighthearted). But it's DHs birthday and considering he and DD don't particularly like birthday cake and much refer chocolate. I realise I'm going to have to get a nice chocolate birthday cake. Any recommendations? TIA

Waitrose does an amazing one. It’s the one with shaved chocolate on top. Only £6 as well. 3 of the four of us get it every year for our birthdays (I don’t even like chocolate, but that’s an exceptionally good cake).

this chocolate cola cake is amazing.

I haven't made it yet, but this recipe looks amazing.

OP if you are wanting to bake one, I can recommend this. It was made for me years ago and is amazing!

I’m also watching with interest as I still haven’t come across a good shop bought chocolate cake. They’re always dry and disappointing or the chocolate doesn’t taste great.

I love the tempting Betty Crocker if you want to bake one it never lasts through the night and very easy to make (my 10 year old makes it)

aintnutinchanged · 23/08/2019 18:34

Sorry it's the devils food or tempting chocolate

Or
The chocolate caterpillar from Asda 😂😂

APipkinOfPepper · 23/08/2019 18:38

My DH and one DC has similar chocolate preferences for birthday cakes. Current favourite is the chocolate chaos cake from Co-Op

M&S Colin the Caterpillar. Has to be the M&S version.

Pascha · 23/08/2019 18:46

Colin is the best.

Nigella’s Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake. It is lush.

Literally just bought an M&S Colin for a party this Sunday. His bum is the best bit - it's full of extra chocolate buttercream. That's not even a euphemism.

Recently got the morrisons triple chocolate one and it was amazing. Lovely and moist. Really big too!

M & S choc cake is the best, closely followed by Thornton’s.
