How to name a watch?

Title sounds stupid but how else to phrase it...

Have just bought DS a lovely new watch as a birthday present. He will be wearing it for school but obviously has to remove for sports. I want to be able to name it so that it can identified as his, although he is pretty organised and will always tuck it into his kit bag out of sight.

Spoke to engravers this morning and they won't do it as it invalidates the warranty, which I don't want either.

Anyone got any bright ideas on how to permanently mark a watch? I am sure marker pen would just rub off.

What sort of strap is it? If leather or plastic then a shoe name label inside the strap.

Sorry, posted and then started working...

It has a metal strap. So lots of little links, which isn't very helpful.

Nail polish on the underside?

I get those little sticker name labels for ds’s uniform, but use them on everything including lunch boxes etc, they stick to everything and last the washing machine and dishwasher. Could you stick one of those to the underside of the face?

Lovely gift.
Yes to nail varnish but can I make suggestion that as this seems a precious gift then if he has to wear it to school then you get a cheap sports type watch to wear on days he has gym etc ?

It'll be heartbreaking if it gets lost or stolen.

I have never seen name stickers small enough, but will have a look and see if I can find somewhere. Do you have a link to where you get them?

I thought about nail polish, but my writing is atrocious at the best of times, so it might look a bit crap. Blush Guess that doesn't matter too much if it is on the back. I wonder if fine marker with a layer of clear polish over the top would work.

He is going to an independent secondary, so will have sports most days, so a cheaper backup would mean the nice one never being worn and slightly defeat the birthday/congratulations on passing your CE message. He has had a Fitbit for the last 2 years or so, and been religious about keeping it safe. Thinking about it, the watch actually cost less than that, but only because I got it half price, plus an extra 10% discount.

Thanks all. Sounds like I can get one of these solutions to work.

We have small stick on labels from Easy2Name, I think we'd have to cut one down to fit on the back of a watch, depends how long your DS's surname is.

The ones I get are from Funky Labels from Amazon. They are 2cm x 1cm so quite small.

Spinnaret · 29/08/2019 09:07

Just popping back to say I managed to get some of the small labels and they are perfect, so thank you for the suggestion. I now have a stock of them, wish I had them three weeks ago before I spent hours sewing on nametapes! 😬

Ah, that's good. They are much easier than sewing!
