Nothing they can do about a broken toe is there. **pic** not very pretty.

Kicked the sofa yesterday running to the baby.
It hit just across the middle of my little toe but the bit below is the most purple.

My toes went white for a while after, no blood flow.
Then this.
Hurts like buggery.

Sorry about the horrible nail, I think it lifted the nail too and now that lost awful as well.

I wouldn't bother with the GP. There's not much they can do. I do think it needs looking at though. My foot looked like that and I'd broken it.

MrsMozartMkII · 22/08/2019 18:58

How are the white toes doing? They the right colour now and warm?

Given the bruising being so around the food I'd still want to have it checked, and bear in mind I was walking around with a broken back for two days, a cracked elbow for a week, a broken (just a little bit) ankle for a good few days, so I'm not one for just going in on a whim.

EggbertHeartsTina · 22/08/2019 19:02

I broke my little toe, it snapped very cleanly and I could bend it at a right angle to my foot... and yet it still didn’t look anywhere near as bad as yours OP. I’d want it checked further, they probably didn’t realise how bad it was when you called them.

I’d get it checked by a doctor.

orangeshoebox · 22/08/2019 19:05

and you probably shouldn't drive. what if you have to do a full stop?

ThatCurlyGirl · 22/08/2019 19:07

Ooh please don't drive with it like that until you've had it seen to! If it gets worse or changes etc you won't be safely in control of the car. Not worth the risk Thanks

TimeIhadaNameChange · 22/08/2019 19:08

I did something similar many years ago, only I crashed into the door frame as I ran to answer the phone and my little toe bent sideways. My whole foot bruised, and darker than yours.

After walking around on it for about five hours I went to visit my nan in her care home, and showed it to the nurse on duty. She sent me to the local MI unit. They refused to x-ray it and just strapped the toe to the one next to it and gave me painkillers. So I doubt you'll have much luck I'm afraid.

tillytoodles1 · 22/08/2019 19:14

If your my SIL, you'll wrap it up and hop around on crutches for six weeks,

Arriettyborrower · 22/08/2019 19:18

I am an ED nurse and ENP. I would X-ray that, yes we don’t do anything other than for big toes, but I would be concerned that you’ve fractured the fifth metatarsal.

Maryann1975 · 22/08/2019 19:29

Dd had similar bruising earlier in the year and they did X-ray it. She had broken a tiny bone in her foot, but nothing they could do. according to the doctor, if it had broken slightly further down, she would have had to wear a boot for a few weeks.
Maybe worth turning up and seeing what they say.

lucylouis · 22/08/2019 19:38

I had a broken little toe and it looked nothing like that!

poolblack · 22/08/2019 19:42

Definitely have someone look at that. Also please don't drive meantime.

Pimmsypimms · 22/08/2019 19:43

Ooh op, I did the same thing, kicked my little toe on the sofa and broke it, bloody hell it hurt!!! I had to have mine reset as it was really sticking out. I've broken that same toe 3 times now, you wouldn't think such a little digit would cause so much pain! You have my sympathies Thanks

silverystream · 22/08/2019 19:46

I've had a broken little toe. Went to A & E. They x rayed it and straightened it with anaesthetic. Then attached a plaster and lollipop stick to keep it straight. Follow up appointment after about 2 weeks to check it had healed ok. Smile

LazyFace · 22/08/2019 20:23

My broken toe was black but not my foot. I'd go to a&e to get it checked. And if it hurts so much you wouldn't be able to do an emergency break in which case you shouldn't be driving at all.

MrsMozartMkII · 23/08/2019 14:07

How you doing today OP?

Roomba · 23/08/2019 14:10

Ouch. Looks just like mine did after I somehow teleported across the room to catch baby DS as he rolled off the sofa - slamming the sofa leg between my toes as I did so. I'd go to A&E tbh as mine needed resetting and strapping up to heal straight.

CatFaceCats · 23/08/2019 14:43

Mine looked like that - last Xmas I was was full of the cold, feeling nauseous, in bed. Heard my son being sick, jumped up, caught my foot on the wall, and caught my toe. It was 90 degrees from where it should’ve been! I then hit it against the bannister (on purpose) to knock it back into place. I didn’t know how we’d all get to a&e with a spewey child, a tipsy guy and me with a broken toe. No way was I calling an ambulance so figured that knocking it back with the easiest thing to do.
I did make an appt at the docs a few days later for the nurse practitioner to look over, said it was clearly broken, showed my how to wrap it to it’s neighbour and to take pain killers.
2 months I had to hobble about on the side of my foot!

SweetMarmalade · 23/08/2019 17:13

Ouch! Hope you’ve managed to get seen today OP.

I once broke a toe or at least badly bruised it by a freak silly accident. I was running downstairs, the dog was running upstairs, somehow we bumped into each other and the toe next to my small toe was the injured party. Absolutely killed! I was just about to go out, early 20!s, took paracetamol, squeezed into boots and met boyfriend. Toe throbbed all night but I drank and it seemed to numb the pain Grin The relief of taking those boots off at the end of the evening was amazing! Toe was a beautiful colour of purple. Dog was ok!

MrsT1405 · 23/08/2019 17:16

Mine look like that last week. Only took about 5 days for it to go. Ice and elevate .

CoffeeRunner · 23/08/2019 17:17

DS2 had a broken toe - but there was none of that bruising at all! It was just sticking out at the wrong angle Shock.

Went to A&E, they x-rayed it & bandaged the broken toe to the next toe for it to heal.

The bruising makes me wonder if the damage goes further. I would go to A&E if it was me.

RandomWok · 23/08/2019 17:22

I hear rum helps and ice! Poor you OP heal quick!

Mrsmorton · 23/08/2019 17:24

Oddly enough I have 2 friends with feet like this in the last 5 days. One had broken 2 bones (more ankley than footy), one hadn't broken anything.

I would ask to be seen OP, an x ray might not change anything but with that distribution of bruises, it would be nice to know.

Don't ask for an x Ray, just ask to be seen in person.

NoDontLookAtMeImShy · 23/08/2019 19:22

OP here on a name change.

I never went to minor injuries. Despite the horrid bruising and awful pain yesterday, I woke up with only a slight limp and zero pain when I drive.

The bruising is still there but the swelling went down considerably so I don't even think my toe is broken.

I think I dislocated it and it popped back in. I reckon that caused he bruising and swelling. Now the swelling has gone down the whole thing feels so much better.

Thanks for your help though

MrsMozartMkII · 23/08/2019 19:53

So glad it's so much better!
