Tips for a child’s surgery

6 year old dd is having a small surgery next month to remove a cyst from her belly button.

We have a telephone consultation next month a week before the surgery to confirm everything, but the doctors in the previous appointments have said she should be able to go home that night.

Her surgery is on a Tuesday, and we plan to have her off school the rest of the week to make sure she’s fully recuperated.

She’s allowed to have breakfast as her surgery is in the afternoon.

What tips can people give to keep her reassured and stress free?

We’ve spoken to her about it and tried our best to explain what will happen so that it doesn’t seem scary but obviously she’s needs entertaining during her waiting period.

So magazines, colouring books??

We’ve also told her she can have a present when she wakes up which she IS excited for Grin

My DC were always allowed to take a loved teddy etc down on the trolley.

It's more you though than them- stress wise. Take something to distract yourself while they're down in theatre. Go for a coffee etc. Don't watch the clock.

Not sure what the correct term is but good luck for a fast recovery.

Yeah I must admit I’m nervous but I’m pretty sure I’m hiding it well from her and making it sound like it’s a good thing and it will be quick and she won’t know anything has happened!
