Can't seem to attach photo but link here

Reddit post says cigarette beetle or flour beetle. I found some few weeks ago on bedroom windowsill. Tiny, brown and they fly. But I've now found some in same bedroom right under the chimney and think that's where they are coming from. How do I get rid? Help!

I knew this was going to be about them!

We've been finding them over the last few weeks in our bedroom and in the landing window. There is no food that they can be living off so we've concluded they are coming in through the open window in our case, and as we're surrounded by trees etc we often get odd bugs in the house.

Are you sure they aren't just flying in?

stanski · 22/08/2019 17:25

@SistersOfPercy sorry you got them too, glad it's not just me! I thought they were flying in too but then kept windows shut in that bedroom for a few days and still find them but around the chimney so figured they must be flying in from there. Have blocked the flue up now but still seen some. Nowhere else in the house. No food there no nothing. Going on holiday in a few weeks and am terrified of coming back to a room full if I can't block their point of entry before we go 😂

Here's one I found on my bed. Baffling really as everything I read suggested they needed a food source, but there really isn't one. I can only assume it's 'that time of year' for them?

Yeah that's the same one! How very annoying. I've put a bunch of peppermint oil around the room now (apparently it may deter?). Will feed back if it works!

Still none the wiser and keep seeing them :(

It looks similar to carpet beetle or woodworm to me

(Not the scary awful woodworm)

stanski · 10/09/2019 21:41

Thanks all. I looked up the chimney.... (has taped it up with sellotape few weeks ago just in case).. on the other side of the tape there are these bugs + worms! So I'm thinking something has died up the chimney.
Do you know if it's pest control or chimney sweeper we need?

I've taped the chimney up with brown tape now to make sure nothing comes through til we get it emptied/sorted. Who do I call?

Ring a sweep and ask them. We pay £60 to get ours swept.

Had a chimney sweeper come over today. We had a dead crow in the chimney! That's why the bugs were there.
