Customs charge

I’ve received a grey customs fee slip from Royal Mail saying that I have to pay a customs charge but I’m not expecting any international parcels. I’ve looked on the website - apparently the parcel has come from Germany (so there shouldn’t be a customs charge anyway surely?). Is there anyway of figuring out what this parcel is/who sent it or do I just pay the fee and hope it’s not anthrax?

@Belgravian i don’t think so. Royal Mail says customs charge and I haven’t bought anything from Germany (but do know a couple of people who live there that might have decided to send me a parcel).

So ask them if they’ve sent you a parcel? Hmm

Or go to the sorting office, ask for the parcel, look at it, decide if you want to accept it or not

Your phrasing made me laugh!

Seriously, I’d ignore it. My local sorting office say if you ask them to dig it out, you have to accept it.

So I’d leave it and if you hear from customs again, say you didn’t order anything and have not accepted any deliveries from abroad.

I got a postage owing notice went to collect and it was junk mail so the counter person just chucked it.
Are you sure you haven’t ordered anything but just didn’t realise it was coming from abroad? You’ll also have to pay something like a £6 handling charge!

Theres some kind of scam going on regarding this type of thing....I'd ring the people you know and ask them if they've sent you something. If they haven't I'd ignore it

So have heard back from one person who says they haven’t sent anything. Might see if I can call the sorting office to find out what it is. Minus the handling fee it’s 5.58 which would suggest a purchase of around £25-30 (too lazy to do the maths) if it was VAT. Wondering now whether I bought something online not realising it came from Germany. Will see whether the sorting office are able to help.

Might just pay it for the sake of finding out what it is otherwise.
