Taking puppy for a walk

Can you take a puppy out for a walk as soon as they’ve had their 12 week injections?

Depends on the type of vaccination and schedule. At 10 weeks he had the vaccination for parvo etc which meant we had to wait another week before we could walk on the street. Mine then had the Lepto4 one at 12 weeks. This meant we had to wait another 2 weeks before we could walk in muddy/watery areas. Other vaccinations brands or schedules will be different.

Essentially it depends on the type of vaccination and the vaccination schedule your vet uses. Therefore you actually need to ask your vet for the correct answer for your puppy.

We had to wait 2 weeks after second injection.

What does your vet say?

Springersrock · 21/08/2019 10:44

I’d speak to your vet. I think it depends on the vaccine they use

We were told ours could go out 2 weeks after her first jab which she had at 10 weeks (she didn’t leave Mum until 10 weeks) but couldn’t go near stagnant water until she’d had the 2nd

Ginmel · 21/08/2019 10:44

Not if you've posted a photo of the puppy on here

Whywhywhy1 · 21/08/2019 15:43

Thanks all. I have spoken to our vet and they suggest a week after the 12 week vaccinations.

You can carry your puppy out in your arms so they get used to all the different noises, sights and smells now. The sooner they get used to them the better.

What have you got? Smile

Your vet will tell you.

Ask about length of walks too. It will be quite short distances to start with.

Have fun Flowers

Whywhywhy1 · 21/08/2019 20:12

Thanks numbers. Yes, vet says to leave it a week before walks. Will check the length of walks too.

Fireinthegrate · 21/08/2019 21:06

I think length of walks is 5mins per months old, so if 12 weeks old that would be 15 mins.

Whywhywhy1 · 21/08/2019 21:19

Thanks fire
