Fuck card fraud

Had an answerphone message to ring my banks fraud line because of suspicious activity on my card. I did and it said the office was closed. So I googled and rang my bank and they said it was a scam.
I am not usually gullible. I can't believe I nearly fell for this. The reason I did was because I was worried about a payment I made and was just going to ring the bank to check it anyway, so that answerphone message sent me into a panic.

Check your phone bill too. You may have called a premium rate number.

Spacerader · 20/08/2019 13:52

Yes I’d check your phone bill, the scam may have been you calling them and being charged a hefty sum to listen to an answer phone message

jennymanara · 20/08/2019 13:54

Oh well if that happened it happened. Too late to do anything about it surely?
Just more annoyed with myself for being daft.

There's a new scam going round that appears legitimate because they're calling from a UK number. Was it 01246?

jennymanara · 20/08/2019 13:55

Just checked, it was an 0345 number so not a premium rate number.

They can hijack any number to make it appear local.

Spacerader · 20/08/2019 14:01

Google the number op.

I always do this, it normally tells you who they are and what exactly the scam is!

Just spent a long time on the phone to a lovely young woman in the fraud department. It was a genuine number. She was lovely and I felt like I was an elderly idiotic woman who could not manage modern day stuff.

It was a genuine number? I’m confused.
