Hiring car in london to take to France?

Help! Our car has died. We have a road trip to France planned on Friday. Anyone hired a car in UK and driven to France? Any recommendations or tips? I'm about to start researching but wondered if anyone here can help me cut corners!

I'm not sure you'd be able to take it out of the country...check with the car hire company.

I've travelled abroad with Europcar hiring from the UK, however, I had to pay an extra fee to do so.

Would it not be better to go as foot passengers and hire a car in France?

If available, I'd probably get Eurostar to France, as close as possible to your destination, then hire.

Otherwise, speak with the rental companies. Much better than posting on MN about it.

When you have 48 hours to completely rearrange a holiday, you cans sometimes get very useful tips from posting on a forum. So thanks for that useful comment.
