To corner sofa or not? That is the question.

Upgrading our sofa after Christmas and ca not decide whether to get a corner one.

Me, dh, 2dc (5 and 8). Currently have a long 4seater and an Ikea poang armchair and footstool.

We definitely need more seating especially as the dc grow.

So 3seater and 2seater or larger corner sofa and armchair?

I love my corner sofa, I've got one in the kitchen/sitting room and one in the living room. Also have a large footstool.

SleepWarrior · 19/08/2019 21:50

I was never a big fan but ended up getting one as it was the best use of space (and cheaper that two normal sofas). Very pleased with it - it's an Ikea one with removable, washable covers for the inevitable messes from the kids!

Jamhandprints · 19/08/2019 21:55

I think theyre a waste of space. You dont really get any extra seats than a normal sofa because you're not going to sit knee to knee with someone. So one side is void if you see what I mean. It just means someone can stretch their legs out.

I hated mine and got rid asap, it took up so much space. It was a 3 seater on each side, so huge, we a massive curved corner. When all sat on it, felt a bit close, especially with visitors.

Much prefer the 2.5 and 3 seater we now have.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 19/08/2019 22:20

Cosiest thing ever imo. See it as a life goal realised to finally have one!

negomi90 · 19/08/2019 22:22

I love mine (and I'm currently lounging on one), but its not for extra seating, its for lounging on and putting feet on.

McDougal · 19/08/2019 22:24

Loved ours and still very bitter that our current living room doesn't allow for one. The comfiness of a corner sofa just can't be matched by separates Sad

TreacherousPissFlap · 19/08/2019 22:38

Hate ours, but it's a necessity due to the dimensions of the sitting room

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 19/08/2019 22:44

We don't like visitors Grin so it'll only really mostly be us lot who live here sat on it.

I think if we did, then a footstool would be necessary to ensure both of us could have legs up on an evening when dc are in bed.

I love mine but it's just me and my 2 children. A toddler who barely sits down and older child who's always out playing so I get the full thing to myself Grin. If I had a partner and older children I would hate it, personal space and all that.

SpamChaudFroid · 19/08/2019 22:51

I nearly did once, but in hindsight I'm glad I didn't.

LyndaLaHughes · 19/08/2019 22:52

I have electric reclining sofas instead. Best thing ever!

Leftiefterson · 19/08/2019 22:53

I LOVE my corner sofa but it is massive. Fits 7 people quite comfortably. It’s wide too so DP and I can both lie side by side and watch tv if we are so inclined. I really love mine.

riotlady · 19/08/2019 22:55

I love ours! My partner stretches out one way and I put my head in his lap and lie the other way, it’s soooo comfy

yearinyearout · 19/08/2019 22:56

I'm desperate for a corner sofa...but I don't have a bloody corner! Too many doors. Definitely go for the corner sofa.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 19/08/2019 23:05

We've just got a massive corner sofa I was dubious at first but husband said it was the best fit for the room. I love that we can all fit on it and not touch each other it also has electric recliners so no need for foot stool

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 19/08/2019 23:07

leftie where is it from? It sou ds great.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 19/08/2019 23:10

Oh @Leftiefterson I wonder if we have the same one

ifoundthebread · 19/08/2019 23:16

I have a big corner with chaise , fit 7 adults a child and a dog comfortably. I did love it, but due to a "poor design" (the shops sofa engineers words) you now feel like there's not enough support in certain places.

itsabongthing · 19/08/2019 23:18

Don’t do it if there’s any chance you might need to move in the next 5-10 years! As there’s a big chance it wouldn’t fit in your next home.

I think it really depends on the room and whether it’s best use of space. Don’t just get one for the sake of it but to make best use of space.
2 sofas is much more versatile but if the room is ‘made for it’ then it could work!
I also suspect it might be a bit of the moment but they seem to have been around for a while!

LittleAndOften · 19/08/2019 23:27

No, because no one sits in the middle of a sofa comfortably - they want an arm rest to prop them up. A corner sofa is just an extended 2 seater really - people go straight for the ends!

Iwasatglastothisyear · 19/08/2019 23:43

Worst thing we ever bought.
Absolutely hate it. Only fits in one position,in the lounge and if you're a serial furniture mover (I am) then it's awful as you can't move it anywhere.
I desperately want to get rid of mine but stuck with it as too poor for a new one!
Give it six months and the novelty will wear off...
