Does anyone else hear stuff in white noise?

We’ve found white noise works well for the baby, and helps me get back to sleep after the many night wakings too (Ewan front left foot is my favourite Grin).

I have noticed I quite often hear stuff behind the white noise if that makes sense. So one of the YouTube ones we use sounds like a choir singing, one on the machine sounds like some kind of chant etc. It’s all very repetitive and quite soothing but in the middle of the night I do sometimes worry it is brainwashing me into becoming a serial killer or something Wink

When I first turn it on or walk into the room it just sounds like white noise, also if I’m moving around but if I’m sat or lying still listening to it I can hear the other sound in the background.

Can anyone else hear it?? DP thinks I am nuts.

Yes, I hear stuff too. I think it is just my brain trying to make sense of it. I dont think it is anything more serious!

Silvercatowner · 19/08/2019 21:11

Yes. Sometimes music, sometimes a conversation that I just cannot hear well enough to make sense of.

I’ve flipped names to answer but yes, I hear all sorts of things. I like white noise very much like the whir of a fan or rumble of a tumble dryer but certainly I hear chanting and such behind or alongside it. I think of it slightly like when you see faces in the wallpaper or fence. ( maybe only I do that!)

Glad I’m not the only one! Goawayquickly you’re not the only one with the faces either.

You need to see the film 'White Noise'.

Yes , same if I’m in the bathroom with the fan on, hear voices that I can’t make out or the phone ringing . And with bedroom fan . Horrible .

I hear the babies crying Hmm

It's annoying. In fact, the only more annoying thing is when they ARE actually crying.

AllGoodDogs · 19/08/2019 22:15

Yes! Often if I take a cheeky nap on the sofa with the TV on I get some sort of white noise type ringing in my ears, it often sounds like crouds of voices or changing as you've described. Always nice go know I'm not going crazy!

AllGoodDogs · 19/08/2019 22:16

*chanting

I sometimes do. I stayed in with ds when he had an mri when he was 6 months and could swear the machien was saying sponge Bob square pants! Things like the hover and hair dryer sound like chats or distant voices sometimes, I think exhaustion and sleep deprivation makes it worse for me.

Hecateh · 19/08/2019 22:27

White noise doesn't help me for this reason.

Audible books really do. I concentrate on the story and drift off whereas with white noise my own thoughts just keep on circulating.

GordonBrockman · 19/08/2019 23:06

Oh god no I do not need to watch that!!
