What age do children get into dolls?

I was thinking of getting DS a doll and pushchair for his first birthday. He loves babies and I think he’d enjoy pushing a pushchair about. Do you think he’d be too young to actually play with it though? I’m not going to spend much but I also don’t want plastic crap hanging around in my house unused and unloved!

At 1, both mine enjoyed pushing things about. Dd got into dolls at about 2.5.
Ds never did, despite my efforts.

My son was about 2.5, he copies what I do with him, now a friend has a baby so he has renamed his doll to have the same name.

Some never do , neither of mine did . I would have thought that there were more useful toys that he could push about ( activity type toys ) and save the pushchair and doll for when he shows an interest .

DD2 always loved dolls, DS was into them from around 1.5-8 but even now at 11 will play with DD2's lifelike baby

DD1 was never into them... she had a Mamas & Papas pram (this was when they started to do kids versions like the real thing) that went mouldy in the shed!

Witchend · 19/08/2019 19:11

DD1 liked dolls for a very short length of time, probably aged about 3-4yo.
Dd2 loved dolls from when she was a baby, I remember her making a beeline to them at any toddler group from the first point she could crawl-which was 5 months. She still has most of them at 15yo (but hidden)
Ds had a great interest in pushchairs from around 18 months. Either tipped upside down so he could admire the wheels or use it as a battering ram. He occasionally put something in the seat. Usually a train.

ParkheadParadise · 19/08/2019 19:12

At about 2 she would spend time with her pram and dolls. At 1 she would just carry the doll about(usually by the neck)

GreenTulips · 19/08/2019 19:12

None of mine liked dolls! Both boys and girls.

AlexaShutUp · 19/08/2019 19:12

My dd got her first one when she was around 18 months and she loved it.

NutellaQuest · 19/08/2019 19:14

Mine loved this one - www.amazon.co.uk/Ikea-IKEA-LEKKAMRAT-Doll-blue/dp/9177122321?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Not sure of the age. Maybe about 2 or 3 still does even now even at junior school age

EssentialHummus · 19/08/2019 19:15

18 months. She fell hard for a plastic monstrosity from Wilko.

legalseagull · 19/08/2019 19:20

DD got one for her first birthday and like it, by 15/16 months she LOVED it! Mainly because she could walk by then so pushing the pram around at break neck speed was the best thing ever

riotlady · 19/08/2019 19:39

My DD is 17 months and likes to cuddle her baby doll, feed it etc. Debating a pram for Xmas but we don’t have much room

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 19/08/2019 19:50

My ds loves his baby and pushchair, started playing with it around 18 months

cookiechomper · 19/08/2019 21:35

My almost 2 year old DS will play with a doll and pram. My 5 and 3 yr old DDs don't really like dolls though and my eldest DS never looked at dolls, though he did like walking his George pig toy up and down in a toy pram.

Sparrowlegs248 · 19/08/2019 21:39

Both Ds loved the pushchair from as soon as they could walk.

june2007 · 19/08/2019 21:39

I work in baby room I would say around 16months onwards. (both genders.)

JaniceJoplin · 19/08/2019 21:42

I got my daughter a baby Annabelle for her first birthday and when she unwrapped it I had never seen such delight! Some children tend to like them more than others though.

notso · 19/08/2019 21:50

DD and DS3 did at around 18 months.
DS1 would just tip the pram ignoring its occupant and spin it's wheels for hours.
DS2 would chuck the doll out and run around with the pram as fast as he could, probably trampling on the poor doll in the process.

Shirtyllama · 19/08/2019 22:52

Loads of kids like pushchairs, especially at that learning to walk/just got it stage where they are so proud of themselves! And will put dolls/animals/any random plastic saucepan in it . As for dolls, maybe see if he's interested at a friend's house or playgroup and then get one? Or try a (clean) hand me down? Did that for my DSs with various toys and saved money/found unexpected things that they really loved

Lemontwist · 19/08/2019 22:59

I just got the doll out that my DD was given for her first birthday a couple of weeks ago assuming she wouldn't be interested but she loves it. She has been carrying it round all day and giving it big open mouthed slobbery kisses. She even tried feeding it her lunch Grin

lauryloo · 19/08/2019 23:12

My lo has a Rubens barn cutie and she just loves her. It's a lovely size for younger children
