Chronic anxiety

Hello all

I am suffering from chronic anxiety at the moment. I don't know why (well I do) but I cannot sleep. Every time I try and close my eyes my mind just goes into overdrive. I cannot focus on anything at all. I am staying sane just by reading posts on here.

I know I need to see my GP but does anyone have any advice to get me through the next few hours.

Thank you.

I'm right here with you. Also reading posts. The most obvious thing to do is to put down your phone and try to sleep.
If you still can't sleep try getting up and doing something, sometimes it's better to go do something than lie in bed and ruminate in thoughts as it'll only exacerbate the anxiety.
Take slow deep breaths. Try to bring down your anxiety, try focusing on an image in your head like ocean waves or something similar, try not to get carried away with the negative thoughts.
Eventually you will relax, and fall to sleep. Then tomorrow book yourself a GP appt and try propanolol, very good for physical aspect of anxiety, not so good for the mental side though.

Another one here with you! I’ve been in bed for about 5/6 hours so far but am yet to sleep (again Angry )

Sorry if I’m pointing out really obvious solutions here but have you tried an app like Calm or meditation guide on YouTube? I have really bad GA that’s been heightened these past few weeks and I find it can sometimes help. I find one where they guide you through relaxing each part of your body and concentrating on just that until they tell you to move on really useful. Haven’t explained that very well sorry, there’s a name for it but I just can’t think of it right now.

Thank you both.

I am desperately trying to sleep but it is just not happening.

I found some propranolol in a drawer so have taken 20mg to see if that helps.

I hope that you both manage to get some rest. It really is the worst feeling in the world especially in the middle of the night.

Have you tried the 'sleep with me' podcast? This has worked for me in the past. Audiobooks help too I find. I set the volume to low this often helps me to drift off. Hope you find something that helps.
