Dreaded school shoes buying time!

We,l it's time for the dreaded search for school shoes for ds size 8 which have to be the type you can polish, so as to avoid anybody trying to get away with trainers.
We will visit all the usual stores with ds trailing along, complaining that they are too tight, too shiny, not comfortable etc etc etc.
I will pay up to £40 for a decent pair, thought I had found some nice ones online at M & S but the reviews were terrible.
And I don't even want to think about dd aged 15, no buckles, not patent, plain black. She always wants to choose slip ons but has narrow feet and they give her no support at all and are useless In bad weather, no boots allowed.
Oh how easy it was when they were little and I just took them to Clark's and came out 15 minutes later, all sorted.
Suggestions for both dc will be very gratefully received.

DD had bought a very nice pair of men's black brogues from TKMaxx, size 8 too. £35 whereas the brand usually retails for about £90.

DS is age 11, foot size 7. Got him some nice Hush Puppies from Clinkard’s this morning. £55.
