Throw away old clothes that don't fit?

Having a massive house declutter and tidy up. Sorting out my wardrobe and I have lots of clothes that are too small. Clothes from my mid 20s when I was smaller (size 8/10) and now I'm in my 30s and after having children I now wear a size 14. I feel bad throwing away the clothes because I have kept the nicer ones hoping I would fit into them again. But realistically it's never going to happen. Should I just give them to a charity shop? Do you throw away old clothes that don't fit anymore?

Someone else will want them if they’re in good condition - give them to a charity shop. I’d never throw something away just because it didn’t fit!

Please don't throw them away! Donate to a charity shop or a women's refuge. Or sell on eBay or Facebook marketplace.

Yeah by throwaway I mean give the good quality ones to a charity shop and any ratty ones to clothes recycling

Do any of you keep clothes for sentimental reasons or in the hope you will fit into them again?

I don't throw away clothes.

They either go to a charity shop or, if not fit for that, then rags recycling

Yes, it took quite a long time before getting rid of clothes that do not fit. I made some headway by going it in phases (I'm not one for a big cull, slow and steady every time for me).

I put on weight during the child-producing years, and didn't manage to lose it for years. But eventually I did, and now fit clothes I wore in my early 20s, so keep your real favourites - it could still happen

Let them go. Let someone else enjoy them.
And when you slim back down, go celebrate with new clothes.

When you lose weight you go shopping. You don't wear old clothes.

Donate them.

If there are one or two you're particularly sentimental about (like, "I remember I was wearing this the first time I felt baby move" kind of thing) then keep them but take the rest to the charity shop.
I once left it quite a while before I got round to giving away quite a few really good, little worn clothes only to discover that moths had destroyed them when I checked them. Gutted.
