Comfortable, waterproof boots - wellies or something else?

Recommendations please for wellies that are comfortable to walk in, or other waterproof boots. Thank you.

I've got muck boots for dog walking. They are brilliant especially in winter as they keep my feet warm and dry.

peridito · 17/08/2019 18:18

IME wellies are not comfortable for walking in .

Fireinthegrate · 17/08/2019 18:36

Le Chemeau. So comfortable. Like wearing your slippers. And rwally warm in winter. I have neoprene lined ones and I love them.

Thank you, I've also found that who's aren't great for walking in, but wondered if there are magical ones out there (maybe that's why people spend so much on Hunter?)
I do a little gardening and a lot of dog walking.

I wear Dunlop work wellies most of the day (construction site), and can walk 10+ miles in then sometimes. Very comfortable. these, but they do a non-safety version too [[https://www.arco.co.uk/products/589300?s=1 here. Not pretty, but highly functional.

Spanneroo · 17/08/2019 18:49

Not very fashionable, but Crocs wellies are very comfortable to walk in. As they aren't rubber, they're warmer too.

As PP has said, muck boots are also comfy and cosy.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/08/2019 18:52

Do you particularly want tall boots? - IMO good goretex lined walking boots are the best bet for comfortable feet.

DuesToTheDirt · 17/08/2019 18:53

Muck Boots are much more comfortable than wellies, and warm too.

TinchyP · 17/08/2019 18:56

Watching with interest. I find muck boots lovely and warm but too heavy to walk many miles in. Walking boots are much easier but colder and then I get very muddy trousers.

britnay · 17/08/2019 18:57

I love Muck Boots, they are extremely comfortable and warm :)

ItsInTheSpoon · 17/08/2019 19:00

Aigle wellies are extremely comfortable

AwkwardSquad · 17/08/2019 19:00

I have old style Hunters - they’re lasting forever but they’re not comfortable for walking. I walk about half a mile at a time in them and that’s plenty. Excellent for gardening in, though.

thanksamillion · 17/08/2019 19:02

I've got a pair of geox snow boots which are great for walking in, warm and waterproof. I've had them for about 6 years so they don't make that style anymore but worth having a look maybe.

TinyMystery · 17/08/2019 19:03

Hiking boots all the way. You can pick up a reasonably good quality pair of hiking boots cheaper than the more expensive brands of wellies and they are so much more comfortable and versatile.

Boggs

TranquilityofSolitude · 17/08/2019 19:06

I have some Ecco walking boots for serious walks, like mountains or all-day hikes, and some Crocs wellies for very wet walks. I find the Crocs really comfortable and I can actually walk miles in them if necessary. It depends how much you want to spend, really.

StandardPoodle · 17/08/2019 19:41

I have a pair of Aigle wellies which have been heavily used for dog walking. They're 4 years old and still going strong.

whiskyremorse · 17/08/2019 19:56

Me and my husband both have aigle parcours wellies. They have a walking book foot bed so you can walk miles in them. We walk a couple of hours every weekend and they last for years. You can get neoprene lined for winter or if you get cold feet. They are worth the investment if you plan to walk dogs for years to come! Shop around online. The adjustable calf version is handy for walking trousers or bigger legs!

BlueSkiesLies · 17/08/2019 19:56

Walking boots + warm socks + gaters over your trousers (or wear waterproof over trousers)

whiskyremorse · 17/08/2019 19:58

Don't waste your money on hunters as they are now made in China. My first pair were really slippy and I kept falling over then they sprung a leak! Festival wellies only like joules.

Pinetreesfall · 17/08/2019 20:17

I second Le Chameau. They are quite pricey but they are SO comfy and warm in winter. I wear them for work and walks with the dc but could easily walk a long way comfortably. Got fed up of going through endless pairs of cheap welly boots for work so bit the bullet. They've done 5 winters so far and look as good as new.

LifeIsGoodish · 17/08/2019 20:22

Ive got a pair of neoprene wellies and added a sports orthotic footbed. They are the warmest and most comfortable wellies I have ever had. I can potter around in them all day. I prefer to wear them with wool socks, as they can get a bit sweaty.

I couldn't justify spending £100+ on one of the really nice makes of neoprene wellies, so I bought mine in Mountain Warehouse for about £30. Which is the most I've ever spent on a pair of wellies!

For a long dog-walk I would wear a light pair of hiking boots or shoes with thick socks. Probably fabric & goretex ones, rather than heavy-duty leather. I like my Merrells.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 17/08/2019 20:28

I swear by my Dubarry boots. Waterproof and as comfy as slippers.
