Panicking - have left my phone in the back of a black cab (London)

Got a taxi home from work today about an hour ago - not feeling very very well.

Pretty sure I left my phone in the back of the cab (had it with me when I left work, checked timing for next bus, then hailed a cab and went home).

Phone rings when I phone it but no on answers it. (Was hoping the friendly cabby would answer it and come back - but no one is answering).

I didn't pay by card and obviously don't know the badge or medallion number or whatever.

Any bright ideas as to what to do. Or am I fucked?

To make things worse, I have a flight early Monday morning - so will be without my phone when away overseas. So a 'check with x' on Monday is going to be too late Sad

Have you got location tracking on it? If I just Google find my phone it shows me where it is

lucysmam · 16/08/2019 17:45

Find my iPhone or similar, from a laptop? I can log into my Samsung from mine & it shows me where I am (only time I've tried was at home, just to check it works)

confusedrn · 16/08/2019 17:46

Have you got find my iPhone (or android equivalent?). Sorry if that's obvious and you've already tried that!

writersbeenblocked · 16/08/2019 17:46

Do you know the company? And can you text the phone saying "If you pick this up ring xxx number" from someone else's phone?

Immediately cancel your phone and any cards that you have bank details on the phone. It really sucks (has happened to me before) but in the end it’s not that much of a big deal x

Shit - it's a TFL job

Taxi

Property found in a London Taxi is handed in at a London police station and forwarded to the TfL Lost Property Office. Property can take up to 5 working days to arrive at the Lost Property Office.

You can enquire whether your property has arrived at the Lost Property Office in one of the following three ways:

  1. You can enquire in person by visiting the Lost Property Office (near Baker Street Underground Station) between the hours of 08:30 and 16:00, Monday to Friday with the exception of bank holidays.
  1. You may make a telephone enquiry by telephoning 0845 330 9882 between 08:30 – 16:00, Mondays to Fridays excluding bank holidays.
  1. You may make a written enquiry by either:
•Posting or faxing a letter. •Completing the on-line form

This thread has it all! Drama, tears, suspense, happy ending! I'm an Essex girl and love our hardworking cabbies - I'm going to be getting a black cabbie brother-in-law soon too....

Wow what a lovely ending. I hope you are better for your trip abroad. (Makes me remember when I lost my purse before a trip to Las Vegas - no debit card, no credit card - a feeling of panic engulfed me!! I can't remember how it was resolved.....I think my then bf gave me his credit card for an emergency - which of course I couldn't fell with frivolous purchases!)

VanCleefArpels · 17/08/2019 08:24

Cabbies are great- my Dad left a bag in a cab when visiting London a while ago, the cabbie looked in the bag to find some number to call, found my number written on a yellow sticky note and called me. Ended up handing bag into a police station from where my dad picked it up the next day. Interestingly, there is a charge when picking up from the police statio and this money is given to the cabbie as an incentive for them to hand in lost property!

(And you can buy a cheap PAYG phone in Argos if you need an emergency contact when away if it happens again 😉)
