selling house - did you include curtains and blinds or ask them to make an offer

We're selling and have blinds and curtains that were expensive and made to measure.

The won't fit in new house without alterations that I'm not even sure we could do. I'm minded just to leave them but DH suggesting we ask new people to make us an offer.

What did you do?

Left ours didn't seem worth the hassle also left our washer/ dryer and fridge freezer no extra cost (both fairly new but no need for them in new house) in the grand scheme just seemed the easiest and nice thing to do - we did ask them first if they wanted them tho

lovelyupnorth · 16/08/2019 11:35

Just included them as were no use to us, most were made to measure or fitted. just petty to sell them - if it was me buying I'd be bloody-minded and tell you to stick them and buy new.

Chitarra · 16/08/2019 11:36

I think it's reasonable to ask them to make you an offer and I have known this happen when I was buying.

However, make sure you think it through. If they refuse and say they're not interested, what would you do? You then have to either leave them there anyway (which might make your buyers think you were v cheeky to ask for money) or you'll probably end up binning them (which would be a shame and a waste if they are nice curtains) because it's very hard to sell second hand curtains of a non-standard size.

For that reason I'd probably just leave them.

MrsApplepants · 16/08/2019 11:38

I would just leave them. If you ask buyers for an offer and they say no, you will then have the choice of taking them with you and trying to make them fit your new place, sounds like a ball ache to me, or disposing of them. Or leaving them anyway.
As a buyer I would not pay extra for 2nd hand curtains, albeit nice to have until I’d got around to sorting out ones to my own taste.

Bluntness100 · 16/08/2019 11:39

Just included them. I've never seen selling a house as an opportunity to get every penny I can out a buyer, and I've only had one seller be that much of a grabber with me.

If youre not going to be using them then let them have them. And hopefully you'll also be repaid a kindness some where else.

fiorentina · 16/08/2019 11:43

Our offer on our house was on condition they left them all, to save us immediately buying them. I’ve usually left them.

HeyMonkey · 16/08/2019 11:45

Our sellers just left them for us.

moonpiggle · 16/08/2019 11:48

Our buyer asked for our curtains and blinds as part of her offer. We accepted.

BarberaofSeville · 16/08/2019 11:51

We included some in the sale but took the ones we would re-use with us. We didn't ask for anything for the ones we left.

Robs20 · 16/08/2019 11:52

We are leaving all of the blinds. Dont have a use for them in the next house. Vendors of the property we are buying are taking everything including the garden shed...

HeronLanyon · 16/08/2019 11:56

Leave them but let the buyers know you are leaving them. They may actually want you to remove them. Or they may want them. My buyers were offered lots of things to be left (some furniture curtains washing and drying etc etc) for free. They replied and let me know what they wanted and thanked me. It was sensible given their offer and the history of the sale etc. Also meant I was very clear about what to clear out/sell/recycle and what to leave.

DerbyRacer · 16/08/2019 11:59

It has always been part of the offer when I have been selling and also buying. So blinds and curtains have always been left.

Drabarni · 16/08/2019 11:59

Just take them with you, I can't imagine anyone would want to pay for your taste.
I don't think you can ask them to buy them, cf Grin

BigusBumus · 16/08/2019 12:01

If your buyers don't want them can you ask locally if anyone would like to buy them. That is assuming your house is the same dimensions as others nearby?

We sold our Smeg cream fridge freezer for about £200 to our new buyers but left blinds and poles etc after asking if they'd like them.

Frlrlrubert · 16/08/2019 12:15

We've included pretty much everything with ours (as have the sellers of the new house).

I thought if you didn't include it and then left it they'd have legal recourse to make you come and get it / pay for removal?

So you'd be stuck finding a home for unwanted stuff if they didn't want it. I can do without that hassle on top of a move!

letsdolunch321 · 16/08/2019 12:17

I left them everything I wasn't taking, as first time buyers coming from renting I assume they appreciated all that was left.

whattodowith · 16/08/2019 12:24

Included them. Had expensive Velux blinds in the loft conversion that were no use to us in the new house. Seemed petty to request money for them.

BlueSkiesLies · 16/08/2019 12:25

Just leave them. It is so petty asking for payment for curtains and poles.

BlueSkiesLies · 16/08/2019 12:27

Would you also ask for payment for carpets? Same deal, you COULD remove them and reuse them.. but it is SO not the done thing any more.
