I start my new job on Monday in a retail role, where lots of make up is the norm, i need a fairly quick morning beauty/ make up routine, as I have a 1 year old! What is essential? And what products are best? Thanks

Hi op.

You might have more luck on the style and beauty board.

My routine is pretty quick but I don’t really apply much.
I cleanse, tone, apply sunscreen and then put on-
-a bit of foundation using a real techniques brush,
-a touch of blush because I’m pale, I like Benefit dandelion as it’s very hard for me to overdo
-I use L’Oréal brow artist to add a touch of colour to my eyebrows
-If I have time I might tight line with Laura mercies cake liner and the brush that goes with it,
-Finished off with whatever mascara I’m using

Here's what I would suggest for maximum speed in the morning and to last long throughout a working day:

  • Powder or mineral foundation - will be quicker to apply than liquid. Buff on with a big fluffy brush and you're done. I like Chanel's powder foundation but lots of people love Bare Minerals or Lily LoLo.
  • Concealer - blend under the eye and on any blemishes. I quite like Nars Radiant creamy concealer.
  • A sweep of blush brightens up the face quickly. Nars Orgasm is a popular shade, it's a peachy pink with a little shimmer and pretty much foolproof on any light-to-medium skintones. They also make a blush/bronzer duo with Orgasm as one of the shades, it makes it quicker and easier to have two products in one place.
  • A longwearing cream eyeshadow in a pale or neutral shade, really easy to just swipe on and blend with a finger and they last all day without smudging. Bobbi brown and Laura Mercier both do great cream eyeshadow sticks, or try Kiko if you're on a budget.
  • Longwearing eyeliner - choose a twist up one so it doesn't need sharpening. Chanel's waterproof stylo yeaux are fabulous, they're really creamy to apply and stay put. I quite like the shade Brun Agape, it's a brown with a hint of shimmer so looks quite soft and natural.
  • Mascara - everyone has different preferences. Tubing mascaras are great for work as they don't ever smudge and will just rinse off in warm water.
  • A neutral lip colour. I quite like sheer lipsticks when I'm in a rush as they're super quick and easy to apply. The Chanel Rouge Coco Flash lipsticks are perfect for this (but many brands have similar). Alternatively a tinted lip balm is also good for a quick natural look, Burt's Bees make some lovely and budget friendly ones.

Can i ask what a tubing mascara is? Great tips!!

Tubing mascara is made of polymers, it applies just like normal mascara but when you remove it, it comes off in small tubes. The benefit is that it's nearly impossible to smudge, but much easier to remove than traditional waterproof mascaras. Lots of brands make them (e.g. Clinique, L’Oreal) - If you google tubing mascaras then lots of recommendations come up.
