How do I make the seal around the bath white again??

Boring thread I know...

It’s all black with Mildred. It looks awful. Mould remover spray doesn’t work. I have just chucked Zoflora at it because that fixes everything but it looks the same 🤷🏻‍♀️

Any magic tricks? Or do I need to replace the seal?

I put a bit of bleach down, scrub gently with a brush and leave for 10-20 mins. Comes up fine.

Neat bleach. But sometimes the mold is so ingrained even that doesn't work, only option would be to replace

Let us know how it goes

Reseal it. It really is easy and cheap to do.

Get a sealant knife/scraper and remove the sealant that is there. Clean all the surfaces well with bleach and allow to dry.

Fill the bath.

Buy a sealant gun and sealant - mould resistance, white. Also buy a sealant smoothing tool. And masking tape.

Mask the bath and wall so the sealant cannot spread too far - about 5mm either side of the corner edge is fine.

Squeeze a long bead of sealant round the edge of the bath/wall. Use the sealant smoothing tool to create a smoth surface. Wet your finger with soapy water and run your finger along the surface.

Remove the masking tape. Leave for 12-24 hours to set. Empty the bath.

HG spray. You can buy it from B and Q or Homebase.

If you don't to do that Dettol Antibacterial Mould & Mildew Remover Cleaner Spray works well.

The mould will come back again, though.

Does the fill bath thing work for all baths? Ours is an old cast iron one?

I use black mould spray. Take some sheets of loo roll, fold in half, fold in half again and press them against the rubber strip, so the folded bit is into the corner between the bath and the tiles. Spray mould spray onto the paper and leave overnight. Because the loo roll's absorbant it stops the spray running off and means it continues to work.

I've ruined lots of clothes with bleach sprays. Don't wear your favourite black trousers to do this!

BeyondMyWits · 16/08/2019 11:27

oh... and any cloth you have used to wipe up mildew - bin it - or use paper towels etc.

If you use the cloth somewhere else, the mould spores will spread and you will get mildew wherever you have wiped with that cloth. Mildew is VERY resilient, it takes nothing at all to spread the little beggar.

Pull it all out and re apply the sealant. It’s quite easy really.
