DH is driving me mad going on about this. Desperately hoping MN can help!
He's trying to find a book that him and his brother loved when they were small (would have been mid to late 80's). It was about a family looking after an egg. The eldest was meant to be looking after it, but they wanted to do something else, so passed it on to the next eldest. Who also wanted to do something more fun. Eventually it ended up with the egg on its own, which led to a phrase thats now in everyday use in our family: "we've left the egg in charge" to refer to a situation where the least qualified person appears to have assumed responsibility.
Anyone remember this book??
